If you have the original abacus, do you think this one is also necessary?

They work the same way. I just got this one for my little kids because it's colorful and fun. Also, it shows the math problem on the board so that the kids can visualize what they are actually doing and carry it to the next step of writting it down on paper.

For what age its recommended?

I’d at least 6 months and above. I bought it back when my son was 13 months. It really helps with fine motor skills.

Is the center part supposed to come off or is it screwed in???
