This is an inexpensive quality knife set!
I have been a Chef for 17 yrs. and from experience know you don't get quality in an inexpensive knife set. This AmazonBasics Premium set really impressed me. The knives I use and have at home are mixed matched because I like good hefty knives. My wife always rags on me that the knives look crappy, so I got on here and started reading reviews. I was not gonna spend alot of money on a set knowing that I have good knives already. Then I saw this set, and looked at the video. I got them in TWO days, and when I opened the package I was expecting the block to be split, chipped, or have saw marks. As you can see the one I got was flawless. I then took out the chefs knife and smiled. Easily comparable to a 8" Zwilling JA Henckels Pro Traditional Chefs Knife. It has the same quality, heft, and balance. TRUST ME I KNOW!!!! Beautiful knife. The thickness of the blade is equal to my Victorinox Fibrox Chefs Knife and I paid $45. for that knife alone!!! This here is a quality product at a good price. Treat them with respect and they will last for YEARS. If your looking for a good complete set, a nice wedding gift, of just looking to replace the "crappy" set you have look no further.

Forged Knives at a Stamped-Knife Price
Purchased as a gift for a friend suffering with an old, rusted, chipped set of cheap big-box knives. As far as I can tell, these are one-piece forged/milled knives with a full tang... no idea how Amazon gets them so cheap. I have a set of J.A. Henckels Four-Star that were 5x the price, and these knives are almost as nice in fitment and quality. Some of the grinds at the bolster aren't quite symmetrical, but nothing that functionally affects the knife. Not show-dogs, just old reliable mutts that get you where you need to be. Knives have a good weight and balance, not too heavy but sit well in the hand and have a nice action. The edge out of the box is only average, and the chef's knife had a decent roll to the edge out of the box. However, they sharpen easily and can take a fine edge with a little work with the steel (no word on edge longevity yet, they don't cook that often). The shears come apart for cleaning (which is nice), although I found it a little too unstable when opening them wide, the rivet is at 90* so when taking a big bite they have a tendency to come apart rather than scissor. Changing to a design that doesn't separate until they're fully open would make them much better. The woodblock is pine, and had a distinct pine scent out of the box (I suppose this is an area where they saved money, I would pay a premium to get a bamboo block instead). The exterior was well-finished, but the interiors of the knife slots did have some rough spots and/or splinters from the milling. Nothing that stops it from working as intended, a little back and forth solved the majority of problems. Friend hand washed them after receiving them, but left them damp. Water spots, but no rust on any of the blades, the steel had light surface rust that came off with a scrubby sponge and soap. Overall I remain optimistic they will stand up to the abuse of a forgetful cook. Having bought expensive German steel, and now these, I daresay I would probably be unable to tell the difference between the two in the kitchen.

Great knives for the cost.
Wow, I cannot stress the value that is given here. You will have a very, very hard time trying to match this set for the cost. Amazon has hit a home run here. Unless you demand the finest, cutco, wusthof, henckels, etc. Look no further. I'd put these on par with lower-middle range henckels and wusthof knives... but at a much lower cost. I snagged an "open box" warehouse deal and got these bad boys for $46. I'd be happy if I paid double. They (not surprisingly) blew my sunbeam knives out of the water. Those of which I left the poor review they deserved. These are very sharp out of the box, be careful with them. I just cut through peppers and partially frozen pork with ease using the chef knife in record (for me anyway) time. An entire 6 qt crock pot filled to the top in a matter of minutes and I'm no chef. I find them of comparable sharpness to my mother's cutco set, I doubt they will hold the edge as long or resist corrosion as well. But at 1/10th the cost I don't expect them to. Bottom line, in the sub $100 segment these are serious knives. ***** Update***** 8/30/15 These still rock, very sharp and zero signs of rust or any other kind of corrosion. My girlfriend even did a no-no and put them through the dishwasher... not even a speck of rust. Guests have complemented the quality, weight and sharpness of the steak knives. At their price point. I don't think there is a better set available.

Excellent set at an affordable price
I'm not a chef, nor a knife aficionado. My wife and I both enjoy cooking and prepare our meals at least 5 days a week. We had a medium quality knife set that was around 13 years old. Due to improper cleaning (placed in the dishwasher most of the time) the blades dulled and rust spots appeared. We decided that a high end set might be a nice gift to ourselves, and looked at the premium brands available. Being non-professionals I started to feel uncomfortable spending upwards of $300 on a knife set. I have been watching these knives for a while now, and have read countless reviews, both good and bad to help me decide if these are worth getting. Having purchased other Amazon Basic items I felt that these were a safe bet, and if I were unhappy I could easily return them. Upon arrival the knifes looked fantastic. They were very nicely packaged and easy to safely unpack. The block was in perfect condition (some reported cracks upon arrival). I inspected the knives and all appeared to be in perfect condition showing no dings, burrs or warping. After a quick hand wash and dry I placed them all in the block. I did have a slight issue with one of the steak knife slots not fully cleared and preventing the knife from sliding all the way down. I was easily able to clear it using an old steak knife as there was only a wood chip stuck in the slot. I have used the knives about every day for the past 2 weeks and so far the are great to use. Very comfortable, super sharp and they clean up well. The only issue I have had is the Scissors come apart very easily, I've had them fall apart while using them twice already. I will see about adjusting the tension on the connection, but honestly the scissor is not very important to me and I don't mind replacing them with higher quality kitchen scissors if need be. Overall we are very happy with this purchase and I expect that with proper cleaning these knives will last a very long time.

Hands down, excellent value
To start, I am an avid home cook. My partner and I cook 6/7 nights of the week, chopping, dicing, cutting and getting all fancy. I purchased this set in Oct 2017 as a "hold-over" set -- we just bought a new home, and I needed something quick to use in the kitchen. I had every intention of researching higher quality sets and replacing this set within a year once we got settled. Fast forward to this month (Dec 2024), and I am still using this same set of knives -- I never replaced them with the higher quality set because they just kept going and going and going. The edges always sharpen nice, the weight is perfect, and they are comfortable to handle, even for those who have small hands (and mine are pretty tiny). Unfortunately, after 7 years, they have developed some notching are they are nearing the end of their life. This time around, I researched lots of sets and was about to settle on the ever popular "W" brand Classic set, which is arguably the pinnacle of sets for most home chefs. But then I thought, "I have been cooking daily, flawlessly, with this affordable set of knives, why change it up?" So, I just ordered a second these to replace the old ones. I am in no way saying these are equal or better quality the the "W" brand Classic set, but I am saying for a little over $50, this knife set is one of the BEST kitchen investments I've made. They do everything I need to do with ease. Some things to consider: โข I will note that I feel the shears are garbage; those broke within a year of having them, but I didn't care because I have another pair of higher quality shears I use. โข I did not have an issue with the steel on these being "flexible." โข DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER. This is what causes the "rust" complaints you see in other reviews. You need to handwash them and ensure they are dry before returning them to the block. As a general rule, you should never be putting your knives in the dishwasher expect for butter knives. โข The block height may be frustrating for you if you have lower cabinets. I myself have to pull to block forward completely to be able to remove the knives from the block. However, I have lower set cabinets, so that's the be expected. If this is going to be annoying for you, you'll want to seek out an alternative set with shorter knife blades to accommodate this. Price is what you pay, value is what you get. The price on these makes them incredibly affordable for what you get, and the value is outstanding, considering you can get tons of longevity out of these as long as you follow simple care instructions. Highly recommended for both beginning and advanced home chefs! 5/5 Stars

This Set Has Given Great Service
I'm a bit slow to review these knives, and I'll tell you why in a moment. I purchased this set in December of 2015, and the knives have given me fine daily service for over 5 years now. They sharpen and clean up well, and do everything I have asked them to. I use them for personal cooking. They clean up well, and still look brand new. If I needed another knife set, I'd buy these again in a heartbeat. I think the price is fair, good value for money, and the set looks great on my kitchen counter. So why am I writing a review of this knife set in January, 2021? Because today, I simply picked up one of the steak knifes out of my kitchen sink drying rack, and the blade simply broke in half in my hand. Right in the middle of the shaft in a straight line. I know my kitchen knives have never been used for prying or anything of that nature, so this was truly surprising. It simply made me think to review the set since I had gotten so much good use out of it. This is by no means a complaint about the knives. I think they have done a great job for me, and just about everything made by man breaks eventually if you use it enough. The good news is that I looked online here at Amazon, and I can buy a set of 8 exact replacements for $21. I only need one, but so what? I'll just keep the others as spares. I think it is great that I don't have to replace the whole knife set and block. This has been one of my better kitchen purchases. Definitely a recommended buy.

Good quality knives for a very reasonable price
I picked up this knife set on a Daily Deal offer a few months ago. I've been half-heartedly shopping knife sets for years on Boxing Day, never pulling the trigger on expensive Henkel or similar offerings. When I saw this set on special, I decided the offer was too good to be true. The reviews for most Amazon Basic knives were positive but mixed -- some complained about the quality, others about the sharpness of the blades, others about the block. Still, I figured the risk was minimal, given that I could simply return if dissatisfied with my purchase, and took the plunge. Fast-forward almost 3 months, and I have to say I am very pleased with my purchase. The knives, with proper care, remain very sharp; the handles are reasonable quality; the block was never an issue, aside from one slot (which was tight for the blade), but has since opened up. Are these premium knives like my one Henkel butcher knife? No. But for the price of those premium knives, I could buy this set 4 times over. So far, I'm inclined to think these will last me for quite a while -- making them an excellent value indeed.

Good set of knives!
I was hestitant to purchase a unbranded knife set but these have worked out great. The knives are still sharp and cut well. The scissors are useful for almost everything and are still going strong. I have had these for almost 5years now and they are still look good, and are rust-free, so excellent value for money. I wash these by hand (not in the dishwasher) to ensure they stay in good condition.

Awesome!
I love Amazon basic products and this Knives set is no exception. I don't know about other negative reviews, but all the knives I received are beautifully sharp and sturdy and really good quality. Worth the money paid and definitely recommend it!
