My review following 2 week European backpacking trip
This backpack is light, solidly built and versatile. I've traveled by backpack thru Europe more than 15x with Jansport and Rick Steves backpacks (both great and well built). This Matein backpack is my favorite. It's the ideal size for me (which of course varies by person), as I've learned from years of travel the invaluable benefit of packing light. Still, this pack easily holds everything I need, including a separate pocket for an additional pair of shoes/sandals. Some reviews in here say the zipper broke on early use, but I never experienced issues with zippers or anything else. My backpack must be durable, as I travel thru Europe by train and to multiple destinations, so it gets carried a lot on my trips and gets a bit roughed up at times. The Jansport pack I traveled with in my younger days was excellent and well-built, but was a top-loading pack, which can be very inconvenient for easily accessing all the contents. Still, I continued traveling with it for years until a shoulder strap broke. The Rick Steves pack, also very well-built, sort of hung on my back like a sack of potatoes. I traveled with this backpack for many Europe trips and its durability and comfort were great. The biggest issue I have with this pack is the laptop pocket is on the outer side (meaning farthest away from my back), which is not ideal for weight distribution, especially for heavier laptops. With the Matein pack the laptop pocket is right against my back, which is ideal weight distribution. This really makes a big difference when carrying the pack for extended periods. Backpacks get heavier when carried for extended periods and in hot weather as you become worn out and tire (more reason to pack light!). I thank Rick Steves for helping me learn to pack light. This Matein pack is soft-sided with more firm corners and adges, which gives the pack stronger form so it doesn't hang on me like a sack of potatoes. This is one of the benefits I really appreciated, along with the location of the laptop pocket and the fact that it fits in the overhead bin on flights (never waste your time checking bags). For a traveling style that requires a backpack to be both durable and comfortable, this is a good one. It also has an outside handle to carry it like a suitcase with the shoulder straps easily tucking away into their own pockets. Given all of that, I've only traveled with this pack once for two weeks, jumping on and off trains (sometimes several times a day), and it performed very well and exceeded my expectations. It handled very well my somewhat rough and rigorous travel style. Most people overpack. Consider what backpack size you need and always aim to underpack - your future self will thank you!

So spacious
I’m a world traveler and this bag is always my carry on. I’ve never had a problem with it being a carry on and I also have a personal item. It doesn’t fit under the seat but it does in the overhead bin. IIt fits everything, I mean depending on what you have but I fit my small electronics bag, toiletries bag, a pair of sneakers in the bottom compartment, a 2 spare outfits, my book, my laptop and iPad in the back pocket, a sweater, and I have another Jansport backpack filled with a few things that I put inside the bag too. I swear it fits it all and could probably fit a few more things, you just have to pack it right. The bag zips all the way around which I love so I don’t have to go digging for things. Very durable. Good quality. The straps are so comfortable. I travel a lot and I’m never bothered putting this backpack on even when it’s heavy. There’s two zip pockets in the front that are perfect for quick access things like your wallet, passport, and headphones. Tip: put the heavier stuff at the bottom to ensure comfortability and pack things flat.

Perfect for travel!
Took a week long trip with this and it was perfect! Fit nicely in under the seat in front of me on the flight. Had plenty of room for everything I needed. The straps were plenty comfortable and we did a lot of walking through airports and it was nice not to have them digging into my shoulders. Quality was great, all the zippers worked, material seems plenty durable, and I'm really glad I grabbed this!

Solid and good, yet odd shoulder placement
Flown and taken long distance trips with this backpack, and can fit so much more in it. There are a good amount of pockets for the size, and the zippers hold up well on an airplane and in the back of the car. Everything is easy access, except the shoe pocket - that was a little oddly placed, but the shoe pocket is easily squishable. Color holds well, and does not show a lot of dirt and grime. Shoulder straps, for this smaller woman, was oddly placed, same with the reinforcement of the straps to the pack. When I had to put the pack in front, the reinforcement promptly dug into my throat. The straps, while standing for a prolonged period of time (1-2hrs) did make my arms go slightly numb to where I had to take it off and get my arms back to feeling normal. I love this backpack though, and have thrown away my older one despite the small set backs here. I'm not going back, this is worth it's price.

The Reviews Were Right
This bag, which was recommended last year by at least a half a dozen sites, had not disappointed me. I thought there would be too many pockets, hard to find things, but I was wrong. Easy to open zippers, large compartments, even the smaller ones you can fit more than 1 thing in. I was concerned about the quality because I had never heard of this brand, and was going to stick to brand names like Patagonia and North Face. But I'm glad I saved some money and got a bag that works for ME! YMMV

Awesome!
Just got back from 3 week international trip with this backpack. I used it as my carry on but it passed as a personal item on delta and american airlines...my friend had her osprey bag as her carry on and the gate agent for American started "force" gate checking bags in Barcelona. Hers was immediately gate checked but because I was wearing this bag, they did not even approach me! Yay! It did fit under the seat for Delta, I didn't try with American (note: I did have the extra room seats in economy). It held up beautifully and the zippers are sturdy. I had this STUFFED and no worries about straining seams. It looks and wears like a regular backpack. I found it quite comfortable to wear for long periods even when fully loaded. I used the shoe area for 2 days worth of clothes (in case checked luggage was delayed) and still fit all my toiletries, makeup/medicine case, water bottle, 3 books, 2 travel pillows, tech/charger bag, big headphones, purse, snacks....and more. Lots of conpartments to keep things organized and easy to find. I will be able to do a week long trip with this no problem. I got the purple to make it easy to track visually, it is bright but not garish. Overall, VERY pleased with this bag. It took its licks getting me through 6 countries and held up like a pro!
