Yes it will. I use this with my guppies in a 10 gallon. This might be very strong in only 3 gallons of water.

I have 1 goldfish, anout 2 inches long, in a 6 gallon tank with filter. Will this work for an 8 day trip?

goldfish are voracious eaters and huge depositors of waster. I would suggest you get one large 10 day feeder. Take out what's left over. BTW these works much better with water flow and filtration. if you have none, buy yourself the smallest sponge filter and small pump. BTW that fish likely will get longer if it has a comet type body or bigger and rounder if it's a fan tail so start thinking now where your 10 or 15 gallon tank will. I have a dozen goldfish in a 125 with both canister and over the back filtration and that works fine. have a nice trip
