THANKS FOR SAVING MY MARRIAGE
THIS BOOK FOR THE WOMAN AND THE BOOK FOR THE MAN CALLED " IF ONLY HE KNEW" HAS SAVED OUR MARRIAGE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR AN EYE OPENING VIEW OF MEN. MY HUSBAND IS READING THE OTHER ONE, I KNOW NOW MY HUSBAND REALLY DOES LOVE ME AND WE WILL HAVE A LONG LASTING MARRIAGE. THANK YOU AGAINWhat we did and how we did it..... my husband and i both agreed to read the his and hers books along with another book called "When Sorry Isn't Enough" ( you each need one of these books.) First we read our books and took notes, not showing the notes to each other till we were ready. We both then read the other his and her books. we took notes. and then shared them with each other. We are stronger than we have ever been.

Dumpster fire Christian marriage book
Wow, I am absolutely baffled by all of the glowing reviews for this book! This book, in my opinion, perpetuates the toxic marriage ideals that are rampant in the evangelical church. I had my husband read some choice excerpts and he described it as "simplistic, shallow, and demeaning to both sexes".Examples:Comparing men as callous buffalos and women as easily crushed butterflies.Likening a woman's sexual assault as a "vaccine" for future toxic relationships.Telling a pregnant woman to give her husband more attention so he will stop cheating on her. These are just a few examples of Gary Smalley's advice offered in this book. All I can say is, RUN!

It made me cry, it made me nod my head furiously...but most of all, challenged me!!!
As a very headstrong, outspoken wife of a very laid back and timid husband, we find ourselves at odds often. But this ball put the ball in my court and showed me how I was messing up disastrously in many areas of our marriage as well as my high expectations of my husband. I can't tell you how many times I bawled through chapters just hoping that my tears were not founded in conviction...well they surely were. Thank you for a playbook for wives to help us better understand how our husbands operate and how to do our jobs as wives to uplift and selflessly love.

Not for spouses who are deep in addiction.
Not okay if you are dealing with an addict. This book is good if your husband has a healthy mindset and is following Christ and the teachings. When you are dealing with and abusive spouse this book will not help much.I would recommend it IF!!!!!!! Your husband is not deep in addiction and is following his vows and teachings of Christ.

Great book for your marriage!
This book was full of wonderful information. Wish I had read much sooner!! I listen to Focus on the Family often, and have heard so much about Gary Smalley from his peers and his children on the show. He definitely had a grasp on how we need to treat each other in our marriages. This gave me a different perspective with my marriage, and I look forward to applying what he taught in this book!

Hopeful
I am only like 4 chapters into this book. But the very first page wheh he describes an argument it is literally almost word for word what my husband says to me during an argument that has gotten me to the point that I think I want to call it quits. I had to recheck the author to make sure I hadn't written a book in my sleep! That alone has made me eager to keep reading and I KNOW I will get something out of this book. I ordered the one for men "If Only He Knew" and he said he will read a chapter a night. I may need to gently remind him, but I am excited to see what happens by the time we finish the books. I think sometimes we just need to be taken back to the basics.

Best practical marriage help we've read yet!
After 8 years of marriage and several attempts with other books to get through some lingering issues we wanted to improved, this has been a true blessing! In truth, it needs to be paired with the companion book, If Only He Knew to be read by your spouse at the same time. Realistic issues portrayed, practical solutions laid out clearly. All sorts of wisdom I had not heard before, much of it just on understanding how God made your husband so differently. They are older books, but the struggles of marriage really do stay the same. Could work for non-Christian couples, but not with the same power. These books have been so valuable to us we want to make sure that we go over them with our children before they marry, sure wish we had had them before we had married!

An oldie but a goodie
I liked all the little practical suggestions. I considered them homework and tried to consistently implement something. Lots of things worked better than I could have imagined. But before our behavior changed something shifted in both of our perspectives. I think this book had impact because we had surrendered to the pain and injustice of the sacrifice it takes to be married. We got to know the Great Sacrifice and what it meant for us individually and then God used this book to heal our marriage. It was a special part of our journey. Thank you.

5 stars!
I loved this book. The author is a very religious person, which I think helps him understand a lot about human behavior. Highly recommend this book!

Great job Mr
A must read for all married women who value their husband/marriage! I've been married for 18 years and have read many books on marriage but this one is the most practical of all. Great job Mr. Gary Smalley.
