Fiskars Ergo Garden Hand Weeder Tool, Heavy Duty for Removing Weeds & Roots

I bought this tool for dandelion removal in my lawn. Bottom line is this tool works. Context: Rremoving dandelions embedded in my herbicide/pesticide-free lawn. I am writing this from the standpoint of what I wanted to know prior to choosing this tool. Pros: 1) If you center the two prongs of the business end of the tool around the stalk/root of the dandelion and push down about 1 to 1.5 inches, you will be able to lever the entire root of the dandelion out of the ground. It took me a few tries to figure out how best to center the two prongs and the optimal spacing away from the dandelion (about 0.25 inches) before levering the dandelion out of the ground. 2) I was able to minimize the amount of lawn grass that gets pulled up by moving the prongs closer to the stalk (0.25 inches away, as noted above). Whatever little dirt or grass does come up, I simply pat back into the ground. 3) The leftover hole size is minimal and I was able to quickly pat the small amount of uplifted dirt firm and flat. (You need to do this. Otherwise you'll have little dirt patches showing from where you weeded.) 4) I was able to consistently get the full length of the root out of the ground after a few tries. You want to GET THE FULL ROOT out of the ground to make sure the dandelion does not grow back. 5) I found the tool sturdy, easy to use and levered just the right amount. 6) My soil was softened up from rain, so that made the weed extraction a lot easier compared to trying to do the same in dry hardened soil. My recommendation is to use this tool when the soil is softened up from rain or watering. 7) Excellent quality. Very affordable and a solid value. I plan to use this tool for many years to come. Cons: 1) You have to bend down to use this tool. Aside: I thought about getting a standup dandelion puller, but I didn't like the idea of having a relatively large diameter hole remaining from the plug of soil and grass that gets pulled out with the dandelion. And then I'd need to put in topsoil and grass seed to fill the hole. 2) I wish I knew about this tool sooner. But that's on me.

This Fiskars Ergo Weeder is a very well made, strong weeding tool. The weight is well balance and feels solid (not about to break at any minute) in your hand. As you can see in pictures attached, in a few minutes I took all these weeds out. It is an ecological, safe for kids and pets, way of dealing with dandelions, crabgrass, and other weed varieties. Safe for the environment, bees, butterflies, and your family. Who could ask for anything more?

This thing is the real deal! I work at a plant nursery and used it the day after it was delivered. We have specific weeds that are always difficult to pull up without breaking the roots - especially red clover, if you know you know. They have web-like roots that spread really far around the soil. This thing pulled them up so easily, I really didn’t expect it. Worked great for big dandelions, too. It’s a lot easier on your hands and it can get into awkward/hard to reach areas - in this case, along greenhouse walls. I’d honestly recommend this to anyone! Totally worth the money, but this was super inexpensive to begin with. Very pleased.

This tool came quickly and I used it to pull about 100 dandelions out of my natural area. Was it perfect? No, it wasn’t. Some weed came out with one pole sometimes it took four or five digs. Maybe five had roots left behind. But overall, this was great for dandelions and the souls. I wish the V in it was deeper and I do wish the tines had sharp points. Still a really useful tool. I didn’t read the lead tag warning. I didn’t have a lot of contact with the metal anyway and of course I washed my hands after using it. I found this to be a great help. My back was sore from bending but that’s life with weed pulling. You either sit down and scoot around or bend over take your pick.

I really liked the design of this. It worked better the typical straight shaft weeding fork. The design gives increased leverage, that is needed in heavy hard clay soils. I used this to remove about 100 well established wild violets from my lawn. It is well made and the price was great.

Best tool ever! This is the only tool I use for weeding! Easy to hold, easy to pushing into the ground and lift up the weed and its roots. My hands do not get tired or sore when using this tool. I strongly recommend this weeder!

This weeder is very well made and the polished casting looks as good as it is strong. Just as I expected and thought it would be worth the money. Unfortunately it isn't that effective at most of the weeds I encounter. the fork at the end is too thick a casting and cannot get under and hook weeds as well as a similar idea having a curved sheet steel rocker design of a weeder I bought for less.

I just used this weeder and I really liked it. It’s easy to use and does pick up the weeds from the ground great. I was surprised considering it is very basic looking but it does work. Maybe a longer handle would be a bit better but all in all it’s a good product.

Works best with smaller plants, pulling long thin roots completely. I really like the large handle, the pivot half way up and the easy ground penetration. For larger plants its about yhe same as my previoushand tool, often missing thevstm on the first attempt. You might consider a larger model for that.

Looks good quality - robust and unlikely to bend like so many other versions of the same type of tool. Will revise once used. But looks promising.

Haven't used it yet but it seems solid & up to the job.

It's Solid, well-made, easy to use comfortable to hold and is probably going to last for decades.
