This is maybe the most awaited (instrumental) metal record of the year. Founded in 2006, OMEGA MASSIF quickly seized the attention and interest of listeners from several genres (metal to doom to sludge to instrumental postrock) through the years - and that's a result of just 2 records in 5 years: their demo KALT and the first full length GEISTERSTADT. Their new and 2nd album KARPATIA, a result of two years songwriting, again unites the well known calm melodic components with an immense dynamic and dark feeling in the monolithic heavy parts. In contrast to other instrumental bands, OMEGA MASSIF invent their own sound and are able to maintain the tension throughout the whole record without the usage of cheap climax ideas. Special LP: 180 + special cut out triple gatefold sleeve + booklet LP: 180g + thick gatefold sleeve + thick printed inner sleeves CD: handprinted triple gatefold digipaks Stream: www.denovali.com/omegamassif Review: Heavy War Music - I originally started listening to this band with my discover of Geisterstadt. That album is also very good, but this masterpiece is on a whole other level. This album can be both balls to the wall heavy, and introspectively beautiful in it's wake. It's primal and thoughtful. Omega Massif creates an amazing atmosphere, there is something so vast about this album. I personally picture war for survival in a barren land. Great for lifting. I really don't know what else to say about it. One of the best albums I've gotten in the last two years. Review: Great band - A mixture of, drone, soft rock and metal. This is a very nice album. I may get another from them. Too bad the band disbanded.
