Top starter book!!
Such a great starting off book. I played music a bit 25 plus years ago and have done nothing since. The book just flows with no music reading needed at all, but it throws snippets in which are great to get a taste. So good to use what you learn for progressing further into playing bass and learning to read music in the future if that's what you fancy. I've really enjoyed it. It isn't overwhelming. I got some other books that go from 0-60 and left me overwhelmed. This is a great book. Learning bass is obviously difficult but this book is as accessable as you'll get.

Quite easy to follow
After looking at different books this seemed the best one,I wasn't wrong,instructions are simple and easy to follow for a complete beginner. Really good book for someone who has just started learning to play.

Great beginner's guide
As an ex-bass enthusiast wishing to rekindle my love for the instrument, this seems to be the greatest way of relearning. Look forward to it!

Perhaps not the best way to learn the bass?
There's nothing particularly wrong with this book. A bit unclear in places I thought and requires perseverance? Thing is, I think this is a very old fashioned way of learning an instrument. The book is competing against some very high quality online teaching courses (which I've discovered since buying this book) where you can see and hear what you're learning rather than just trying to fathom pages of tablature. The book is now gathering dust and likely to stay that way. Horses for courses etc.

Easy to understand concepts. Perfect beginners book.
I purchased this to teach myself to play Bass guitar. I'm now playing at my local church. I've been playing for 9 weeks, 6 of which have been in front of the congregation. You'll learn the very basic techniques to get you started, the rest is up to you and your own dedication to the art. It's great for beginners.
