A decent, low cost option that works
Like many others, I'm operating on budget and was looking for a reel that was a decent, low cost option that works for my purposes and I think I've found it in the 3/4 wt Aventik reel. I've been fly fishing for years now and a sensible rule is that unless you are planning to take on fish that have a good chance of actually getting into your backing and testing your drag, the reel is there to hold and manage your fly line. I've matched this Aventik with a very nice 4 wt rod and loaded it with some higher end fly line and now it almost makes me think I've finally learned how to cast! Yes, it's a so called "plastic" reel but it doesn't feel like it. It feels solid and operates very smoothly while looking nice enough. The spool is easy to remove and has a deep "v" that holds plenty of backing and I agree with others that at this price, don't worry about extra spools, just get another reel. If there is a downside it's that the knob to adjust the drag is BIG and makes this reel a bit thick (3 of 5 stars). Overall, if is necessary for you to be more "strategic" with your fly fishing $$$, give the Aventik Z a try and put the savings into a good rod and/or quality fly line and you'll be good to go!

Very affordable and appears to be very well built.
I purchased three of these reels for less than one extra spool would have cost for a traditional name-brand reel. The composite-material construction is light and appears to be very sturdy. With the reduced weight, I took others' advice and ordered the larger seven/eight reels so I'd have the greater line capacity and be able to use them on water with both smaller and larger fish as possible catches. The larger reel actually makes a perfect counterweight for the two antique bamboo rods I'm going to use them on. My first impression is that these reels will work just fine for me and that they easily match the quality of much more expensive reels.

Happy with my reel/line purchase.
I got an old Martin fiberglass fly rod that need a reel and after spending too much time pouring over inexpensive reel line set ups I decided to try this one. Pretty happy with it so far. Yes it plastic but who cares. It will prolly get banged on rocks etc anyway. I like the drag setting that also has a click to the know so it stays in place when you set it. No clicks when you reel line in so you can take up line fast just by giving it a good spin. One way bearing system is good and smooth. Not a loose fit for the spool which is nice. Line seems decent as well. I’m sure there are much nicer lines but it’s supple and seems to cast pretty well especially considering the price. I’d buy one again without hesitation.

Exceptional value and high quality...
High quality bang for the buck. This works as well as my $250 Ross Reel. You do need to adjust the drag, but for the price, you are getting an excellent reel. The arbor post is stainless and the arbor bushing is brass. Corrosion resistant materials used throughout. I'm using it in saltwater with no issues.

Good line holders
If you're just looking for a reel to hold line, as many smaller fish anglers are, these are great. As sized, there's not much room for backing. My pictures show a 6wt SA Expert Distance on the 5/6 reel and only 10 yards of 20# backing. Bring in a fish without doing a great job of level-winding and you'd jam up the reel with any more backing than that. The other picture shows a 7wt Barrio GT125 on the 7/8 reel, and only 30 yards of 20# backing. The reels are pretty light, so you could always size up to get more backing on them. Drag seems good, and I love that it clicks going out (a nice sound too) but does not click reeling in.

Nice find
I’m giving this 5 stars not because it’s the best reel out there, no, but it is great for the price and operates better than the reels I’ve seen come with the fly rod kits that range $80-$150. Used it only about 5 times now so I can’t speak on the longevity but I’ll say I’ve had no problems with it. My favorite part about this purchase was that it came with a fly line and lieder so I could use it right away. I put this on an extra rod for when I fish with friends and the latch to take the reel apart makes it very easy to undo tangles.

Decent inexpensive Fly reel
It turned out to be exactly what I thought it would be. Its actually not bad looking and the spool turns freely and easily. The drag is nothing to get excited about but its doubtful I will ever need to put a fish on it ever. It does work but not as smooth as more expensive reels but for most it would work ok. I took it out immediately and cast with it and I'm overall pleased with what I got for what I paid. I'd be thrilled if it only had a click feature with no drag at all. So, to summarize, for a cheap reel its not bad and works fine. Its light and looks decent. Most would never guess its Carbon Fiber. I'd buy another one if I needed to.

SUPER POUR LE PRIX

Loved it up until today. It worked great. Now, inly 3 month's later. The drag has completely locked up and I cannot pull any line out. Very disappointed!! Hasn't been used in any extreme environments and only on small fish
