Jamaica by Thomas Harrison and Colly Liddell circa 1893 Giclee reprint made in the United States Pigment inks on artist canvas Shipped promptly in a heavy gauge tube This is a vintage reprint of a historical map titled "Map of the Island of Jamaica," originally prepared for "The Jamaica Handbook" in 1893. The map was created under the direction of Thomas Harrison, the Government Surveyor, and Colly Liddell. The map divides Jamaica into its three traditional countiesโCornwall, Middlesex, and Surreyโand their respective parishes. Each parish is outlined and labeled, showcasing towns, villages, and significant geographical features like rivers and mountain ranges. The map includes a legend that identifies symbols for boundaries, roads (main and parochial), railroads, post offices, churches, sugar estates, and settlements. Key features: - The map highlights significant towns such as Montego Bay, Kingston, and Port Antonio. - Railroads and proposed railroads are indicated, reflecting transportation development at the time. - Topographical details include Cockpit Country and Blue Mountain regions. - A scale of statute miles is provided for reference. This map serves as both a geographical and historical artifact, offering insight into Jamaica's landscape and infrastructure during the late 19th century. Review: Cool gift! - Got this as a gift for the husband to decorate his new home office. Printed on nice, thick paper. Only downside? To frame it, I would have to get a custom frame made! (in the neighborhood of $300!). Son suggested laminating it and mounting it to the desktop, which is perfect. It's a really INTERESTING map-we spent a long time looking at it! Review: Cultural beauty - Just look how beautiful it looks!
