Sculpey Super Living Doll Clay, 1-Pound, Beige

I had no experience sculpting or making miniatures, and I have created really stunning pieces with this type of Sculpey. Here are some tips I've found for beginners: - Make sure your hands and surfaces are clean; any clay like this will pick up fibers and dirt easily. If you plan on sanding and painting your baked piece this won't impact your piece, but if you are airbrushing or leaving it as is, cleanliness is key to not gray your clay. I like to keep a small "scratch" ball of clay as I go to pick up any errant fibers on my hands. - Don't underestimate the importance of warming up your clay before sculpting! You must roll it in your hands, knead it with your fingers, and really make sure it's super pliable to get the best sculpting quality, especially with detail work. - While it's true this clay does not cure out in the open, DEFINITELY store it in a fully sealed container to preserve it in the long-term. I made the mistake of not storing it properly and it made the clay much harder to work with. I like to now keep it in a Ziploc bag inside a Tupperware container. - A variety of tools is crucial, especially for beginners. I like to teach myself as I go, and having a nice variety of tools to experiment with and get a feel for has helped me exponentially. You don't have to spend a lot of money on tools, I've found large varied sets on Amazon for under $15 that I get great use from. - My last tip is one I always remember as I plan new, advanced sculptures: while it's true you can rebake your already baked pieces, you absolutely want to minimize the number of times any one baked element has to go back into the oven, you never know when it may crack. My first time baking a human form sculpture I baked the head and torso, then the arms, then the legs, then baked them all together after connecting them with clay. It left me with two cracks on the legs and one on the arms that came later, even though I followed the baking times to a tee. Next time, I will plan differently to minimize the amount I rebake, since it really is a risk you don't have to take. I hope this helps!

I absolutely love this medium. It was my first time using it for a school project and fell in love with how easy it is to use it and work with it. Cooks quickly and in your home oven since you just need a low temperature. There are great YouTube tutorials to learn all the tricks, like using isopropyl alcohol or baby oil to smoothen the material.

Great for sculpting tools for an artist who makes dolls like my husband

Easy to work with, like all the Sculpey products I've used - very soft, it feels like Sculpey III. The color on the Living Doll clay stays gorgeous - if it darkens or otherwise changes color after baking, it is almost imperceptible, which is one of the reasons I prefer this product over the original version. Even after multiple bakings, it stays the same color. Another point of comparison is the ease of working the sculpture after it has been baked. The baked material seems softer to me than the original, and I have wondered whether I didn't bake it properly, but it seems to be consistent that carving, sanding, etc. is easier, and far more precise. Worth the higher price point!

Not had any experience with other brands, but this worked very well to create 1/12 scale dolls for my project. I was happy with the result.

Good product and price

I helped my nephew with a school project using this clay. It's been a long time since I last worked with clay. I was happy to find this was very easy to work with, molded and sculpted so well I ended up accidently buying more than I actually needed. It took some time to create and finish the project so I was happy to be able to store it and come back to it and have the clay still as pliable and workable as ever. With the extra clay I can't wait to work on something else.

Softens easily if you work it in your hands. The heat and rolling action makes it smooth. Tried it on a smaller than one inch head sculpt. works great.Not sticky, fluid plastic like feel. Haven't baked yet. do recommend.

Mi diletto con l'arte da molti anni e mi dedico al disegno, pittura, scultura, modulazione, modulazione 3D, stampa 3D, pittura ad aerografo ecc. Mi capita abbastanza spesso di realizzare bozzetti su carta con una semplice matita oppure in digitale sul mio iPad ma prima di passare alla modulazione 3D, finalizzata alla stampa di prototipi che una volta pronti verranno ricalcati con gesso e silicone, mi piace creare una bozza (magari molto semplice e non necessariamente dettagliata) di quello che dovrò poi scolpire digitalmente. Lo faccio prevalentemente per capire le forme, gli ingombri, gli eventuali punti di torsione/tensione/rottura ecc. Super Sculpey viene sempre in mio aiuto permettendomi di realizzare dei bozzetti estremamente accurati. La pasta si lascia modellare facilmente, soprattutto se non ha preso troppa aria, ed è possibile raggiungere una precisione nei dettagli difficilmente raggiungibile con altre paste. Di sicuro impossibile con Das, terracotte basilari e altri. Ho caricato alcune foto che mostrano alcuni bozzetti e passaggi per arrivare al prodotto finito. Se proprio dovessi trovare dei "difetti", e quindi dei CONTRO, a questa pasta potrei dire: - Se fosse un po' più economica non mi dispiacerebbe - una volta cotta è fragile, se cade a terra state certi che si spacca. Massima attenzione! - Bisogna utilizzare colori acrilici a base acqua dati a pennello e similari. NON provate a colorarla con bombolette spray perché il risultato che otterrete sarà che dopo ANNI la vernice sarà ancora fresca e appiccicosa (test eseguito personalmente). PRO - facilità di utilizzo - alta lavorazione - alta qualità nei dettagli anche più piccoli - resiste per lunghi periodi esposta all'aria (ma fatele la cortesia di non scordarla inutilmente aperta) - cuoce in poco tempo (solo 15 minuti) ma attenzione che ovviamente scotterà per un po' di tempo. NON prendetela con le mani nude per estrarla dal forno - a differenza di altre paste polimeriche non è tossico (che non guasta assolutamente e lo si può usare in piena serenità anche con i bambini) CONCLUSIONE Lo consiglio a tutti coloro che hanno dimestichezza e necessitano di una pasta modellabile professionale per eseguire lavori o per creare bozzetti. Sicuramente molto valida anche per chi muove le prime armi (non sprecate soldi con Das e simili a meno che non abbiate una reale necessità) per apprendere ad utilizzare gli strumenti e a muovere le mani nel modo corretto. Si tratta di una pasta altamente professionale che quindi consiglio davvero a tutti. Se solo fosse un po' più economica sarebbe meraviglioso ma per il momento ci si accontenta.
