desertcart.com: Growing Vegetable Soup: 9780152050559: Ehlert, Lois: Books Review: Yay veggies - I like the veggie positivity that encompasses this book. Yes, itโs about growing and harvesting veggies to make soup but the pictures and text are fairly simple and make the idea of eating vegetables into an adventure. This author is great and we have several of her books, all of which make us want to get out and garden. This one makes my kids request veggies at meals- thank you! Review: Durability for Toddlers and Vivid colors for Infants - Wonderful book for the early budding backyard farmer. Vivid colors of vegetables will keep any toddler/youn read captivated as they learn the names of vegetables and see the process for growing food that can be cooked with.

Great Book
Kids love this story. The colors are bold, and the story allows for basic vocabulary building related to gardening. The story reads really nicely, and leads children to the understanding that their food comes from a garden, and that a garden can produce vegetables to use in soup. It talks about how the vegetables are noted, how they grow, a SN how they are prepared and cooked together for a meal. I accidentally ordered the paperback instead of the board book, so pay attention to the fact that there is a choice. I am sure that it is obvious, but I missed it. I was ordering it for a gift, so I was sad at myself for the mistake, but the book is one of our favorites.

A wonderful book for preschoolers
I use this book in a class I teach for early childhood educators. It is a pretty perfect book. The language is simple and elegant. The illustrations are beautiful and informative and they complement the text. It teaches several valuable concepts at a level that preschoolers can "get." I watched a family child care provider with a mixed-age group of 2- to 4-year olds use this book and simple props to involve all the children in acting out: preparing the soil, planting seeds, watering them, harvesting the veggies, and then making mock soup in a real pot with plastic vegetables. This could be combined with each child bringing one veggie from home and making real soup, perhaps also reading the book "Stone Soup." Each wonderful new picture book is a gift, now more than ever as we understand early literacy. Thank you for "Making Vegetable Soup."

Colorful, labeled pictures!
I recommend this simple book for little ones and even early elementary years! What I love most is the process of growing vegetables being illustrated and tools used in a garden being labeled. Very colorful and large pictures. Board book is great so little ones donโt get paper cuts!

We're using it at pre-school. Well done and beautiful drawings. Clear exposition and excellent pedagogical tool for didactics to three years old kids.
