It can be hard for those of us living in the 21st century to see how 14th-century Buddhist teachings still apply. When youโre trying to figure out which cell phone plan to buy or brooding about something someone wrote about you on Facebook, lines like "While the enemy of your own anger is unsubdued, though you conquer external foes, they will only increase" can seem a little obscure. Thubten Chodronโs illuminating explication of Togmay Zangpoโs revered text, The Thirty-Seven Practices of Bodhisattvas , doesnโt just explain its profound meaning; in dozens of passages she lets her students and colleagues share first-person stories of the ways that its teachings have changed their lives. Some bear witness to dramatic transformations - making friends with an enemy prisoner-of-war, finding peace after the murder of a loved one - while others tell of smaller lessons, like waiting for something to happen or coping with a minor injury. Review: Clear psychological advice to enhance everyday happiness - This is a fantastic book that gave me tremendous insight into my own thoughts. The book helps you distance yourself from your thoughts, and determine thought patterns that are ultimately helpful or harmful towards achieving inner peace and happiness. The philosophy and psychology is rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, but explained in such a way that non-buddhists can easily understand and apply the lessons of this book to everyday life. Thubten Chodron is incredibly clear and compassionate in her delivery. It's rare to find a book that can turn around your mind and aid in everyday happiness, and this is one of them. Review: Practical Buddhism for Daily Life - One of the things I love most about Thubten Chodron's books, and what keeps me coming back, is that she deftly mixes practical application for real life issues with a solid foundation in Mahayana Buddhist thought. It's not an easy balance to strike, but Ven. Chodron does a remarkable job making complex topics approachable without watering them down or making them feel like pop-psychology. The format of this book makes it easy to pick up for short doses of wisdom. Lay practitioners share their experiences understanding and applying Dharma to their daily lives right along side Venerable Chodron's skillful teaching. Highly recommended!

Interesting
A book based on a very good idea, see title! Then backed up by people's personal stories. I don't think it is her best book ever (mainly because there are so many quotes from other people so not so much directly from her) but a worthwhile read and a message we should never forget if we want to be free!

I love this book - it's been an invaluable guide
A clearly written and helpful guide to the 37 practices of Bodhisattvas. The book is totally relevant to my everyday experience and has helped me deal with lots of problems, for example at work and in relationships. The book is divided into fairly short sections which are easy to read and meditate on. I'd recommend this guide to anyone looking for practical suggestions about how to apply Buddha's teachings in our daily lives.
