W 917 Spin-On Oil Filter Replacement Compatible With Volvo 240 (1990-1993), 242 (1980-1984), 740 (1985-1992), 850 (1993-1997), S70 (1998-1999), V70 (1998-2002) & More

Fits my 97 Volvo 850. I had previously had a problem with low oil pressure on startup, with a Fram filter. Consulted with various volvo forums to see if my oil pickup was dirty or if my oil pump was going bad, but they said that it was using low quality oil filters. An oil filter should have a 1 way valve so that when you shut off your engine, your oil does not seep out of your lines and cause low oil pressure on startup which of course causes more wear on your engine. The fram filters I was using did not have those valves or at least had very poor iterations of a valve. My Volvo has made it to 300,000 miles and hopefully with these high quality filters it should last until a million. I don't even think these are any more expensive than the store brands, and an ounce of prevention can save you a lot of money in engine repairs.

These are apparently THE after market replacement for the factory Volvo filter. It's highly recommended on the Brickboard Volvo forums and all the local shops in my area that I called (non-dealerships) use it. Allegedly Mann actually makes the Volvo part and this is the same part that Volvo just puts it's name on. It's superior to the other brands because it has a one way valve that stops oil from draining back into the pan, so when you start your engine there is immediately some oil available. The first few minutes when you start your car are the most abusive to the components due to lack of oil and presumably this helps lessen the impact.

This is the OEM filter for Volvos (Volvo does put its TM on some on this and charges you more). It is very important that you use this or the official Volvo filter, because not all aftermarket filters are specifically designed to keep oil in certain parts of the engine when it isn't running. One of the main reasons Volvos never die is because while most cars experience a dry start and take many cycles to get oil onto engine parts, Volvo engines with Mann filters are designed to keep an oil bath on those areas during rest. Not every filter will work with your Volvo engine to have this effect.

Use these on our Volvo 240 best filter out there don’t go cheap or US filter these are made correctly for your 240.

For some reason, the Amazon part finder says this doesn't fit my 1996 Volvo 850, but that's false information. I knew the "Mann W917" was the right one for my car, and you can't go wrong with the OEM oil filter that came with the car out of the factory. It fits and works perfectly. Highly recommended brand for any Volvo owner.

Mann makes the best oil filters on the market with the most filtration for it's size. This filter is heavy.... and the housing is like iron ......with a built in spring pressure safety valve. Identical to the Volvo brand that Volvo supplies. Made in Germany !.... and.... I recommend it !
