Enjoyable for Intermediates, especially with the MP3 files
I am learning German, and use German short stories as one way to increase my vocabulary. These four stores do help that, maybe more than I wanted right now in my beginner's state of mind. Still I did enjoy the MP3 that are available from the author, using the instructions on the last page of the book. Listening to the German and reading along does seem to help my pronunciation and flow, even if I don't understand every word in German. The English text is just to the left of the German text, so I really don't miss the story line. And I do pick up some new words in German. I did feel that this book was helpful, so I did purchase other from Forum-Sprachen-Lernen and Beate Ziebell

I bought this book in Amazon USA and I like very much the parallel text (English on the left, German on the right) on each page, which provides a great help when studying German and facilitates me in picking up a good reading rhythm without stopping too often to consult a dictionary (I just need to quickly look at the English version on the left).The choice of the story is fantastic because it is very entertaining.The job of the author, Beate Ziebell, is very good!

Great book, but you need the accompanying audio
I was just looking for a book to help improve my German, and what I didn't know was you have to purchase an accompanying audio portion. So just be forewarned this is only part of the program.

This format of side-by-side translation is very effective for the language student trying to improve fluency. Any unknown words can be learned immediately, without stopping to look them up in a dictionary. Makes the learning faster and more fun.

Great novel
Reading a classic novel in German is interesting. The stories keep you interested all the way.

Omitted words cannot be learned from context.
I wanted to like this book, but so many words are simply omitted from the translation that it is not useful to me. It is impossible to interpret the meaning of unknown words from context when the unknown words don't exist.For example, Edgar Allan Poe's words: "within view of the melancholy house of Usher"are translated as "sah ich das Stammschloss der Usher vor mir"which literally means "I saw the Ancestral Castle of Usher before me"Since the adjective "melancholy" or "Melancholisches" is missing from the German translation the sentence fragments are not equivalent.This leaves the reader with no option but to look up each unfamiliar word to see which word does not match, which not only goes against the value statement for this product, but also becomes so frustrating that I have not yet made it to the third page of parallel text.

A really good bilingual German and English book
My husband who is very interested in learning German absolutely loved it. These bilingual books are very good if you want to improve your written German. This one is also very interesting.

Nice idea but...
Nice idea but wrong material. The English is old-fashioned and not at all similar to how it‘s spoken. I presume that the German is the same. That makes this text of very limited use for building fluency in the modern language.
