Why does it say lycra when it is mostly nylon?

This fiber gives nylon characteristics it would not have alone. Lycra is a brand name for elastane, which is a highly elastic synthetic fabric. Despite having different names, Lycra, spandex, and elastane are all the same material. Cost wise the Lycra in the fabric cost more than the nylon. Also it sounds better.

Does the cap provide UV protection? If so, how much 50?

Yes, it would provide quite a bit of UV protection for the head, including the forehead. But not the back of the neck or the face, nose, or front neck.

Can my 5 year old kid use this cap?

The circumference of the edge of the cap is 16 inch. I stretch the cap over my head in a circle of 24 inches. Not too tight, sitting comfortably. The circumference of the head of a 5-year-old child differs from the circumference of an adult’s head by 2-2.2 inches corresponding to the size (min-max). That is, the hat fits perfectly. If the child is a girl with a “luxurious haircut”, TYR has developed special hats with extra space for the hair. I recommend TYR products because of their quality and functionality.
