Uniformity with God's Will & The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ

I had never heard of St. Alphonse, and I’m not quite sure how I stumbled onto this book, but I am glad that I did. I found this to be a rewarding read. It has great value to many persons, including those who enjoy reading about such topics as religion, manifestation, mysticism, psychic development. This book puts into perspective how we are supposed to live our lives, and what the focus of our lives should be.This is a book that could be mined by a Catholic priest for many Sunday sermons. It has practical, real-life applications – something that is often bypassed in Catholic churches. I myself have been witness to numerous pointless, inane sermons that fail to apply Christ’s teachings to our everyday lives. I have heard both priests and ministers speak in platitudes, and/or mindless quoting of Biblical verse.St. Alphonse writes in an English that is, at times, archaic; however, he quotes many important figures in Catholic history such as St. Theresa, St. John Chrysostum, St. Francis de Sales etc. When he quotes these other saints, his quotes are relevant and supportive of the points he is making.Among some of the topics St. Alphonse addresses are prayer (St. Niles, abbot, used to say that our petitions should be, not that our wishes be done, but that God’s holy will should be fulfilled in us and by us). He addresses life’s difficulties in one section (Reflect that all the sins of your past wicked life happened because you wandered from the path of God’ will. For the future, embrace God’s good pleasure and say to him in every happening “Yes, Father, for so it hat seemed good in thy sight (61) When anything disagreeable happens, remember it comes from God and say at once, “This comes from God” and be at peace: “I was dumb and opened not my mouth because thou hast done it.”). He writes of the realities of truly living a Christ-like existence (A person that loves Jesus Christ is anxious to be treated like Jesus Christ, ---poor, persecuted, and despisedDr. Wayne Dyer and other authors have written of the negative health effects of irritation. St. Alphonse makes the following comments about this topic: (We shall find it a great service to arm ourselves in prayer against every chance of irritation, that may befall us. In order not then to give way to culpable resentment, we should always remember that saying of St. Francis de Sales: “I never remember to have been angry without afterwards regretting it.”)To sum up, Uniformity with God’s Will is an excellent and powerful book that should be read by anyone who is interested in the topics I’ve mentioned. I’m very happy to have been “led” to this book.

I was looking forward to this edition because it is essentially two books in one. However, this is simply a re-publication of Uniformity with God's Will, translated by Thomas W. Tobin, CSSR, and a 1887 edition of The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ. While that alone isn't disqualifying, it is clear when you compare this edition to two other editions of The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ that this needed to be edited more, not simply reprinted; it has incorrect quotation mark placements and odd number placements that are in the middle of sentences.I recommend purchasing either of the following two version:1) https://smile.amazon.com/Practice-Jesus-Christ-Liguori-Classic/dp/0764800310/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=the+practice+of+the+love+of+jesus+christ&qid=1565876141&s=gateway&sr=8-3or2) https://smile.amazon.com/Practice-Love-Jesus-Christ/dp/1926777131/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=the+practice+of+the+love+of+jesus+christ&qid=1565876185&s=gateway&sr=8-3The first version may preferable because it has been published by Liguori Publications, which is a nonprofit and an apostolate of the Redemptorists, which was founded by St. Alphonsus Liguori; they clearly have a stake in getting this translation/edition correct. In addition, it tells you that the Scripture quotations are from the NRSV, whereas the edition by the Vancouver Eremitical Press is silent as to where its Scripture quotations come from. Version 1 is also divided neatly, making it more easily read and referenced for group study.There are some criticisms that I have of the first version though, like the fact that it seems to be missing quotation marks at the bottom of page one where it says "Look, says the Lord, I was the first to love you. ..." If he's saying that then I think that there should be quotation marks, and indeed version 2 does have them.In addition, in my opinion, version 2's writing seems to flow better. Thus neither version is perfect and some may prefer link 2.

The Uniformity with Gods Will &The Practice of Love of Jesus Christ puts into perspective the difference between the will of society and the will of God and how we use our own will to choose between the two. This is one of the better books that I have read in terms of providing the spiritual guidance needed for those who do not have a spiritual director. Although society often drags us away from the precepts of Christ, St. Alphonsus Liguori brings us back into the heart of God and, it is there, we recognize the real truth to be lived in our life. For those who are serious about their spiritual growth, I would highly recommend adding this book to your library as a resource to be read many times.

If you only read one book for spiritual growth, read this little booklet. It is a very simple concept, but very hard to actually put into practice. However, St. Alphonsus knows what he is talking about and gives you a clear outline of what to do if you want to advance in holiness. I cannot recommend this enough. I keep re-reading it just to remind myself all of the points.

A great book to meditate on and a wonderful reminder that our God deserves to be loved with all our hearts all our spirit and all our strength and from that love God will provide us the ability to love our neighbors. A very timely and relevant message for our current turbulent times. Praise be to God most high and to the Son Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

This is a book which shows one like me to live without being affected by what goes all around that may not lead to my happiness as a human being who is destined to have a life everlasting in company with God.

This little book is loaded with helpful information and examples, for anyone wanting to start or progress, toward perfection. Excellent reading.

I find this copy has many many many punctuation mistakes. I also discovered that the "author" references things from the 1900's, but St. Alphonsus lived in the 1700s. The stuff that's referenced is not bad (Pope Pius X about receiving frequent Communion and things like that) but the editor or whoever wrote that in doesn't say it's been added in. It makes you think if they also took stuff out.Also, the book has been printed by Amazon, and has no Imprimatur nor Nihil Obstat.I'd get a different version.

Suitable for anyone who is interested in getting inside the mind of a saint and of obtaining a glimpse of what a saint experiences.

Saint Alphonsus provides us with a sure path to holiness in this excellent book....a must read for all those who are seeking the way of perfection and a greater understanding of how to love Jesus Christ and of conforming to his will.

Wonderful book, having the Uniformity with God's Will at the start of the Practice .... is the perfect spiritual introduction.
