New Balance Women's 877 V1 Walking Shoe

From 28yrs of running and poor footwear in the Army, I have fallen arches. The feet are flat. I cannot run any more due to age and permanent injuries. Still trying to get exercise! I require a shoe that IS NOT the typical running shoe. Walking and running require a different angle of attack for the foot to meet the ground. I tried the all foamy, squishy shoes, and they work OK, for a short time, then they quit having squish and they hurt the feet. These are pretty close to the concept of Zero shoes, in that the tow portion is on the same plane as the heel, or in other words, the heel area is not all jacked up in the back. My feet are wide in the front but my heels are not. This shoe matches that profile. I got a wide width. I am not a multi wide. In the old days that would have been an E not a EE or EEE. I like the shoes. I am early into wearing them for my daily walks, but I suspect they will last a while. My feet do not hurt after the walks. That is my criteria for good or bad, so I defiantly give them a "good". My goal is to eliminate pain. If you have old, flattened feet, lots of life's aches and pains and still realize getting walks in every day to try and stay fit is important, these shoes will help you. I might get a few more pairs in a few months in case this shoe goes away. Every time I find a shoe I like the shoe companies decide to kill it off and come out with something else that does not work. I call it shoe whack a mole. It got 5 stars for fit, comfort, and the heel on level with the front (zero rise).

I’ve worn the 877 for 8 years. Each year I buy another pair and rotate them on a weekly basis. I still have and wear my original pair. As other reviewers have mentioned, these shoes are now being made in Vietnam. In my photo, the shoe label on the left is a three year old shoe and it was “assembled in the US.” The shoe on the right is one I got this week. It says “made in Vietnam.” I wish they were still made here but the Vietnam made shoes are still true to size. They always fit properly and the pair I just got seems to have more support in the heel. I need that because I am susceptible to gout and need a soft shoe that provides good support. I haven’t had a gout attack since I started wearing the 877. Other reviewers have said they look like old man shoes. I think they look OK. The gray color goes with any clothes and they can be worn with any outfit. They are very comfortable to walk in and I walk 3 miles a day. The 877 holds up quite well. They are not waterproof so be careful to avoid puddles. I have had a couple of pairs come with laces that were way too long. I try to work around this by making an extra large loop when I tie them. The last two pairs that I ordered, the made in Vietnam ones, have laces that are the right length. Other reviewers have mentioned that the toe box is too narrow. I haven’t encountered this problem. I wear size 8D, which is smaller than the size worn by most of the reviewers who complain about a narrow toe box. There hasn’t been any drop off in quality since I first started wearing the 877 eight years ago. The newer ones seem to made a little differently, but I haven’t had any problems with mine. I highly recommend that 877 for anyone who needs a good walking shoe that can be worn all day long and which can hold up to long walks.

Shoes are such an individual thing and the same pair can fit one person like a custom mold and give another painful blisters. But for my purpose (I have wide, flat feet) this shoe was great. It never gave me any pain walking - not in the arch / heel / blisters / toebox. And it never compressed my foot and felt true to width (I had a 2E, depending in the shoe style I need either 2E or 4E). My gripes are mostly cosmetic and minor. I think it's a really ugly shoe because it has a very square toe box. So it makes it look like you are wearing fat, wide, squared off ortho shoes and doesn't really look like a sneaker. I've since moved on the 847v3 and that has a much more conventional 'sneaker' look and normal looking toe box and still is plenty roomy. The other thing is that the lining material inside the mesh parts wore out very quickly. So I had holes in the lining that were visible under the mesh from outside the shoe on the sides and in the toe box. But I wore them nearly daily as my commuter and "take walks at the office" shoes for about 1.5 years. I can't say I'm all that disappointed in how long they lasted. Oh and the insoles were pretty much worn out and done after that time also but are removable so easy enough to replace.

Nice shoes - they look as good as they do in the photo, they're well-made, light weight, and they fit my wide feet as expected/hoped. True-to-size. This particular model is not made for off-road, so don't order it with that expectation. But for everyday walking or standing, they're comfortable and work well. They're also well-packed for shipping - won't be smashed down by the time they get to you.

April 25, 2023 ADDITIONAL - I usually wait for these shoes to go on sale before buying BUT if you pay in neighborhood of 50% less, just remember, nothing really comes cheap meaning that these shoes will likely have defects. For example in my second pair, the tongue of the left shoe is shorter than the right shoe. Not a deal breaker but I would not expect this if I were paying full price. Still love the shoes but I am a frugal buyer. This is my second pair. Loved the first and love the second. I have wide feet and a high instep. I wear a 4E, 8.5. These shoes are true to size These remain the most comfortable walking shoes I have found. Not much to look at - it's like wearing Kleenex boxes BUT I am not a fashion conscious fella. My first pair lasted about 1.5 years of daily use. Initially, I did not want to pay $100 for sneakers so I opted for the NB 608 which costs less and is a great shoe also. Listed as a cross trainer, I see it more as a walking shoe. The manager at the Sawgrass Mills Outlet Store turned me on to the 608's and she was correct about these as a substitute. If the 877's are a 95 then the 608's are a 90 in terms of comfort. So, both were good picks.

I liked the comfort of the shoe. Plenty of room in the toe box. The colors are muted grey, blue, and white and go with most other colors. However, the area of my big toe is wearing out after approximately 2 months. I received 11/26/24 and it is now February 9, 2025. I paid almost $80 for these shoes. I do not wear them all of the time, mostly to work out in 3 times a week. I expected them to last at least a year. Also, they were supposed to be made in the USA, and it says on the shoe that they were made in Vietnam.

I have been using various New Balance walking shoe models for about two decades now since I first discovered my sensitivity to plantar fasciitis. This is my first time trying the 877 and I'm very happy with it. Good support and fit as I have come to expect. Mesh fabric upper breaths nicely to help with my prone to sweat feet :).

Great Shoes - these used to be Men's shoes - I clicked 'reorder' and was sent here. Looks like NB discontinued these. Too bad, I have been wearing them for 10 years. Maybe try OrthoFeet as NB is now focusing on other types of shoes. I assumed they would go away as all good products do - I should have ordered 3 pairs last year.. Oh well, I suppose I get to try on a bunch of inferior shoes now - PROFIT!

I am extremely happy with these shoes. I have a bad hip and I have found that new balance shoes do make a difference for me. However I unfortunately cannot afford the price our local shoe store charges for them. I found this pair on Amazon and they are great. Will definitely reorder
