Solid phone for a great price
I needed a phone for my small business. I was primarily looking for a desk phone with a speaker feature. This phone has worked out very well for me. It is relatively light-weight overall. The features work as described. And the speaker phone aspect works as you would want it to. It is clear and easy to use.Overall this phone works just as it is described. You can not go wrong with this phone for the price.

Real, unbiased summary of other reviews
I read many of the reviews here - some good and some not so good but I decided to buy this anyway. I will summarize my findings based on actual reviews from others. I realized either they made changes to the design (unlikely a company will dedicate a lot of R & D time to a low priced item) or some people do not take the time to familiarize themselves before reviewing.First of all, it's important to buy according to your need. You can't expect a $25 phone to perform like a $245 business-quality phone. I work from home and am on conference calls a few times a day. The phone is perfect for a home office. Other reviews mentioned the following:The phones overall weight: I agree - it is solidly built and doesn't slide when you pick up the receiver. The dim screen was mentioned often: There is a contrast adjustment in the menu. The screen is easily readable when adjusted properly. The Mute button works fine - It makes an audible tone when pressed, but is not heard by the other parties. I tested this 3 separate times. You CAN initiate a speaker-phone call without picking up the handset. The speakerphone does not sound "tinny". Again, I asked on 3 separate occasions and they said they heard me fine. It sounds fine to me as well and was loud enough (it also is adjustable).I feel the phone is a good value and performs well enough for a home office or general use phone. The batteries are NOT required to use the phone normally. I no longer even keep batteries in it.Update - March 2022 - The phone still works!NOTE: I purchased this item on Amazon for full price and have no affiliation to the seller. I try to write helpful, unbiased and insightful reviews because I also read reviews prior to making my own buying decisions. I notice many reviews lack helpful information, are not well written or give poor reviews based on not reading directions, inexperience or failing to read the product details prior to purchasing. Writing valuable reviews helps pay it forward.

Does Not Work Without Batteries
This item is sturdy, sleek, and looks well in my office. It has a large, easy to read display, and the sound quality is fine. All of these things are great for the price. The reason I have given it 1 star and wish I could give it 0 stars is because, without batteries, the phone is completely USELESS!I'm not just talking about the electronic screen/panel, I mean the numbers on the keypad won't even dial without batteries! The ringer won't ring without batteries! I have never seen this lack of functionality in a phone. I have other phones that require batteries to power the nice features like caller id, but when the batteries die, and the caller id can't be used, at least you can still dial numbers. With this phone, that is not the case, the manufacturers have seemed to put the keypad and ringer on the same electronic circuitry as the caller id panel. This is frustrating, because when the batteries die (and they die quite quickly in this power-hunger phone) my "office" phone is nothing more than a paperweight. I can still get a dial tone so if someone calls me, and my ESP tells me they're gonna call and at what precise moment (because remember, the ringer doesn't work either), well, in that case I can use it. But those odds are long. So pretty much, without batteries, it's a paperweight. Don't get caught in an urgent or emergency situation and count on this phone to work.

Satisfactory Choice in a Universe of Limited Choices
This is a reasonable choice in a marketplace where there aren't many old fashioned desktop phones to choose from. Previously I had a Northern Telcom (US West branded) phone that lasted a long time -- close to two decades -- and if it weren't for the fading of the display, I would still be able to use it. This phone is not the same league, but that's to be expected with (I suppose) all the smart engineers wanting to build smartphones.Pros: good size screen, legible depending on lighting, good size buttons, battery option means no power cabling to worry about (but see battery cons).Cons: The battery option means that you have limited time to save your settings when the batteries go. If you're away on a long trip, better change the batteries first. (My old phone was on a UPS.) What I dislike the most about the phone is the absence of a backlit screen. Sure, there's caller ID, but what good is it if I can't read it? The manual was too rudimentary and didn't cover some of the basics very well, such as scrolling through call history or deleting past calls. The address book should hold a couple hundred names. This phone does no better than the early 90's model. Maybe I would like this phone better if I hadn't owned a Northern Telcom that showed me how it should have been built instead.

Nice solid phone
This is a very nice phone. The display is large and easy to read. The phone feels heavy and not cheap. The sound quality is excellent. I am very happy with this purchase. The cord could be a little longer for the headset but frankly those are easily obtainable for about $6 at the local big box store. I'd buy another one if needed.

Uniden Desk Corded Phone This phone works good but the caller ID display does not display the numbers they are half visible. I will not buy another used phone with caller id from amazon. I purchased another phone from another seller and it works terribly. Phones used is not a good idea to purchase.
