Curse of La Llorona, The (Blu-ray) The timeless Hispanic legend comes to terrifying life in “The Curse of La Llorona.” She is The Weeping Woman and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. She creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own. In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide. Review: Like it - Good movie in great shape. Review: Disc quality is excellent, disc played perfectly - This review is solely for the quality of the disc received and not for the movie quality itself. The disc played perfectly, no freezing, skipping or scratches. The Blu-ray case was undamaged in shipping. I've bought alot of movies and series from desertcart and have had issues with the DVDs or Blu-rays freezing, skipping or won't play in general. Thankfully this was not the case for this particular listing / seller. Highly recommend

Absolutely worth a rental, possibly a purchase.
I've rented this movie twice now, and am at that point where I wish I'd just bought it. It's part of the Conjuring franchise, but all you see that ties it in is a familiar priest that transported Annabelle in one of those. Regardless, it's a very well made movie with really interesting folklore. Definitely worth a watch, but don't expect tons of tie ins.

a perfectly average, by-the-numbers, inexpensive jump-horror movie
It's a perfectly average horror movie. Stock characters fit obvious plot needs, and the plot is about as complicated as the directions on the back of a shampoo bottle. You know who's going to fulfill whatever plot requirement along the way, and you've seen this movie a thousand times. It's just that this time it's called "The Curse of La Llarona". All that said, it pretty solidly done. It's shot well. The actors are do well. (Special shout-out to Marisol Ramirez, the most interesting character in the movie. She plays the monster, La Llarona. Srsly, she owns the movie and the last third of the film. Shout-out also to Patricia Velasquez who plays the tormented lady, not the leading lady, in the movie. Her character is written campy as can be, but she makes it work better than it should.) -- The movie starts out kinda slow, and then about halfway it perks up. The last quarter of the movie moves along on a healthy clip. The movie has a shorter runtime, and truth be told, they could've chopped another ten minutes of attempted spookiness and suspense and had a much, much better movie... well, broadcast tv movie perfectly timed to include commercial breaks. -- I don't recommend The Curse of La Llarona, but it's not a bad movie. There are plenty worse movies you could watch, though.
