Do you pull back to the plunger or the first ring?

For measuring dosage, you measure the first ring from the Luer lock end. The liquid in syringe is the volume. The extra rubber space is to prevent leakage.

Is this a low dead space syringe?

Yes. I hate that dead space when the med is expensive and you need as little as I do
