I bought this to play the whistle parts in Celtic metal music.The tone is great, I do not see any issues playing certain notes, and the Feadog whistle book they offer is perfect for learning beginning songs.

Feadog makes a good whistle. This is their basic model, which is good for anyone starting out but can be made to sound even better by a skilled player. These whistles are known to be pretty sensitive to breath pressure so if you struggle with that for some reason you may want to look for something a little more stable. I used these to teach my children breath control. They have that traditional "chiff" that many players love, but if you don't then I would find something else. Overall a great little whistle for everyone especially for the low investment.

Good construction, I think a bit breathy in its sound, and harder to play in upper registers than other whistles, in my opinion. Though its a low volume whistle, I'm tending to favor the sound of the wooden fippled Clarke... but, the Feadog would be beat it on volume. Virtually all inexpensive penny/tin/Irish whistles are going to differ in tone and playability, and likability will be up to the user, but also know that few have dead-on tuning. The Smart has a model that is tunable, very durable and loud enough to accompany a good number of other instruments, but might be found to be harder to play in the upper registers than others.

Overall I like the sound in the lower register. I find that the upper register is harder to plan than on the brass Feadog that I have. Also, I feel a fair bit of vibration in the metal when I play which I do not care for. It is lighter in weight than my other whistles. Overall, I like my other Feadog better and I would purchase another whistle. That is just my personal preference though. I really wanted the feadog pro, but when I tried to order that from amazon all I got was an empty feadog box! This whistle, in contrast, came to me without a box! I found that very odd. Also, whoever sells these put a barcode sticker ON MY WHISTLE! It is a cheap, crappy sticker that does not want to come off and is thoroughly agitating me. It is OK, but for my money, I would purchase elsewhere
