Q: I will be using this to insulate a smoker, in between the sheet metal. Is it safe to do so with this material. as it will be used for cooking

Yes, this insulation is commonly used in ovens and stoves, so this is a great application for it (when installed between metal - as you mentioned)

Q: Is this ok to use to insulate my van?

No, this isn’t that kind of insulation. Look for I enclosed fiberglass insulation, or even better Styrofoam board at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Someone there can help you.

Q: Do you have this product available in the 6 lb. density?

It is an item we carry that is not yet listed on Amazon. We are looking to add this in the near future. We currently have the 8 lb and 4 lb density listed.

Q: So will this product not be effective if just wrapped around the outside of the firebox on a smoker? (i.e. not encasing metal around the blanket too)

It will insulate the smoker, probably 2 wraps of the 1" will be more effective. However, the insulation will quickly deteriorate without a cover in the elements. The other more important consideration is the barrier against the ceramic fibers, which are extremely hazardous if inhaled and can cause irritation and inflammation when coming into contact with skin.

I used it in a 49 inch long forge I bought on Amazon wish they sold a smaller roll 25 feet is a lot.much safer than ceramic fiber.
