She was promised to England. He was sworn to Scotland. And one reckless kiss changed everything. A reluctant English bride. A Highland laird bound by duty. A marriage neither of them wanted—and neither can escape. Lady Arbella de Mowbray never intended to marry an English noble occupying Scotland. But when her journey north erupts into violence, she is pulled from her horse by a Highland warrior who promises her safety—and delivers temptation instead. Magnus Sutherland is a laird first and a man second. His loyalty is to his clan, his alliances, and a war that leaves no room for desire. Saving an Englishwoman was a mistake. Wanting her is worse. When Arbella is attacked by one of his own men, Magnus makes a ruthless decision to protect her. He will make her his wife. What begins as a mock marriage meant to ensure her safety quickly becomes something far more dangerous. At Dunrobin Castle, stolen glances turn into stolen nights, and the line between duty and desire blurs beyond repair. They are enemies by birth. Both already promised to others. And surrounded by those eager for revenge. With war closing in and old betrothals threatening everything, Arbella and Magnus must decide whether love is worth defying their countries, their vows, and the lives they were meant to live. A sweeping Highland historical romance featuring enemies-to-lovers, a forced marriage, sizzling chemistry, and a love powerful enough to start a war. Review: Just a Great, Fun, Easy Read - I've just been getting into this genre, and so far Eliza Knight is my favorite author by a landslide. With the exception of The Highlander's Triumph, this entire series is so, so, so fun! 10/10 recommend this book for any romance reader, but especially historical romance lovers. Eliza Knight's characters are relatable and likeable. The guys aren't just growling and the girls aren't simpering; everyone is a real, balanced character. The sexual tension she builds throughout each story, is excellent and well maintained throughout-even after the characters sleep together. She does a good job making each couple's attraction different enough that you don't feel like you are reading the same novel over and over again. There is always a good balance of romance and character development. The setting and overall dangers of the time keep the stakes high, but there is always a good deal of humor throughout that I think a lot of other authors in this genre lack. Like, come on, we are all just here for a good time, amiright? Overall, this book is a fast read. It is paced well and very accessible. She does not weigh the reader down too much by trying to overexplain the historical setting, which I think really helps these story's pacing. But if you are looking for something that is super historically accurate, this is probably not it. While the two leads are not my favorite of the entire series, I really enjoyed them and their attitude about the entire accidentally-but-also-on-purpose-married situation. Review: Fun and a great start to The Stolen Bride series! - The Highlander’s Reward by Eliza Knight is the first in The Stolen Bride series and it was a very fun and enjoyable historical romance for me – actually one of my favorites to date. I listened to the audio version which is narrated by Corrie James and she does such a wonderful job of bringing this novel alive for the listener. She’s a British voice talent and she has a smooth and melodic voice that is so easy to listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed her narration of this novel. Lady Arbella de Mowbray is on her way to marry an English nobleman in Scotland. Needless to say she is not at all happy about this but it is her father’s wish. Things take a turn when they end up in the middle of a battle between the Scots and the English and Arbella finds herself kidnapped by a Scot no less! Laird Magnus Sutherland is her kidnapper and instead of the ogre she expects he turns out to be a respectful and kind man despite his brutish but oh so very handsome looks. He whisks her away to Dunrobin Castle and it is there that she wonders whether Magnus, this castle, and the life of the Highlanders isn’t the life she’s always wanted for herself. Sparks fly though as both Magnus and Arbella had been promised to others… and they show up! What I liked most about this novel was that I found it refreshing and fun. There was no brutality and the love between Arbella and Magnus was sweet. As for the audio it was such an entertaining listen and a great way to spend a few hours. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series and will be reviewing the second in the series later this week so stay tuned. For my readers who do not like sexual content in their reading beware because you will find it within these pages. For me this was a great listen and I most definitely recommend this series for those partial to highland romances!

Magnus and Arabella’s story
Originally, I purchased this book a couple of years ago but wanted to go back and re-read the series again since I enjoyed it immensely and neglected to leave a review the first time I read it. Sometimes in life things do not turn out as planned, such as the forced marriage of Lady Arabella de Mobray to an English Lord she’d never even laid eyes on before and most certainly did not want to marry. On the other side of the coin, Magnus, Laird Sutherland, had just delivered his little sister into the arms of her “true love” who happened to be an Englishman. His vivacious little sister accidentally forced his hand by becoming pregnant, so naturally duty called for the marriage they had been begging Magnus for, for months. On his return home, they wandered right into the battle at Sterling Bridge which is where he met Lady Arabella as he saw she’d been separated from her party and was wandering aimlessly through the battle looking for her father. This story begins when Magnus rescues and absconds with the beautiful, hairbrained English lass he thought perhaps touched in the head to be there unescorted and alone. Of course when we read Scottish Historical Romance novels, we expect a stunningly good looking stubborn Highlander and a less than quiet, demure lass, for his to tangle with. This story does not disappoint in the least! The characters are strongly developed and multi dimensional, the plot is solid and believable with just the right amount of humor thrown in to make the dialogue between characters cause you to you laugh aloud.

Worth reading again!
I purchased this four years ago and read it a second time just this week- it’s truly a favorite! English born and bred Lady Arabella is on her way to Sterling Castle in Scotland, with her father the Baron of Mowbray, to be married off, when their entourage is overtaken by rebelling scots. In the melee Arabella is separated from her father and is under attack from the scots, when a man sweeps her from her horse and carries her to safety. He is Laird Magnus Sutherland. Neither of these two are exactly what the other expected, as they both have their own ideas about each others’ ‘ people’. Many of those ideas are rather humorous too. Magnus saves Arabella from a second attack in the same day and decides that the only way to protect this beautiful, brave English woman is to marry her so her can protect her. Arabella isn’t quite in agreement with the idea, but he’s pretty sure he can bring her around AFTER the ceremony. With a man like Magnus, and the sparks between them, it’s the heat that draws her to him! But Magnus might have another more selfish reason to marry Arabella, and it’s not like she wanted to be married off to her intended either. Since each scorned a betrothal there are consequences that must be addressed. The story is interesting and humorous and fun. It is one in a series of stories with characters from this clan that are colorful and interesting with tales of intrigue and romance. I may have to revisit them all!

Cute and Enjoyable Read!
Cute and Enjoyable Read! What an enjoyable read. I love the highlanders and I am always amazed with the different types of characters you will find in a clan. In this story you get to see Magnus Sutherland, the laird of Castle Dunrobin, get waylaid in love by the unexpected English lass Arbella de Mowbray. Sparks fly but Love Rules with lots of drama and action in this cute story. Magnus was a humorous character that is tough and fierce of course but his far sight about love and the duties to his clan blinds him to the true meaning of love. Detesting the English because they’re deeming to weed out the Scottish men from their country, the last thing he wishes on anyone is to fall in love with them. However, circumstances change when battles take place and his honor to protect any woman regardless of her heritage takes precedence to his standard motto. In this scenario love knows no boundaries and Magnus finds himself leaping in and rescuing his wife to be. Lady Arbella is a stubborn Lass but at the same time independently brave, smart, and fierce when it came to handling the highlander brutes. Her knowledge of the highlanders and of their savage ways cracked me up a few times. It was refreshing to see her experiencing the reality of the truths. Arbella had no desire to marry anyone one and was constantly trying to find ways to get out of a contract of marriage her father had arranged for her that the king ordered. With some surprising turn of events, she gets out of one situation but finds herself embraced in the loving arms of an unexpected highland laird that rescues her from the brutal assaults of war and least expecting that marriage would become a way of protection and an adventure of a lifetime of love, sizzling sex, and humorous drama. The story’s plot was interesting with the drama of two who never dreamed to marry anyone, with both characters being betrothed to others and it coming to a head, the story just exploded with sparking jealousy, fighting action, and tender passion towards their clan members and each other as they find themselves in love. The chemistry between all the characters was believable and I enjoyed seeing them grow and wanted to know more about them in the end. This was such an enjoyable read that I look forward to reading the next installment of the series. I recommend this to all those awesome Historical Romance lovers.

Just ok
Overall, I mostly liked the book. There was little to separate it from the many, many others of its kind. I enjoyed the characters though I was still left feeling as if they fell a bit flat. The author clearly tried to walk a fine line of pleasing those who want lots of history involved and those who just want to enjoy a romance. She did alright. One thing that irritated me was the amount of grammatical errors. I expect that from a book that is free, or nearly so. But, for just under $5, I expected it to be better edited. If the price were lowered, I'd recommend it as an easy read. But as it stands, I'd say you can get the same story for less elsewhere.

Sizzling start to a new series
This book was spell binding. Everything I love about highland romances, Eliza has managed to write about in this book. She captivates her audience with the characters personalities and no part of this book is boring. There was non-stop action and the romance was sensual and steamy. Eliza Knight has out done herself and did a stupendous job at incorporating the war of Independence between the Scots and English into her story. I enjoyed the way Eliza put the characters right into history. Both characters have strong personalities and you will find yourself just as attached to them as I am. Eliza Knight has crafted a superbly intriguing plot and characters and you won't be able to put the book down for a second. This is most certainly a MUST read and one of the best highland romances I have read!! I am now eagerly awaiting for what's next install for the stolen bride series!!!!!

Better Than Expected
Very fast-paced and lively, the book quickly jumps into the fray, action-wise, and effortlessly reels readers in. You can see why this is the case with a fascinating medley of the following: great premise, storyline, wonderful characters, rapport, chemistry, action, humor, romance and sex. Combined also with the fact that the book is very well-written with believable scenarios, an intelligent and spunky heroine (Arbella de Mowbray), and a charismatic, and sexy rescuer (Magnus Sutherland), and everything just seemingly flows perfectly into place in The Highlander's Reward. I have always liked Eliza Knight's books and was certain, for sure, that this one did not disappoint. After reading this in a few hours, I can actually honestly say that this one has earned its permanent place in my ebook library for life. Get a copy today and you'll see what I mean. You'll end up reading into the wee hours of the morning like I just did, unwilling to put the book down until I've read every tantalizing page. Highly recommended.

Sweet vegetarian highland romance
This is an enjoyable light read. I really can’t fault it. The characters are charming but believable. The historical setting is intelligent but not like a history lesson. Even the baddies end up being entertaining. There just isn’t that much too it. And the plot is padded with too many bouts of vigorous bonking. In the end it’s not great enough for me to read other books in the series. The first third of the story has the most action. English noblewoman Arbella travels through Scotland to meet the man she has to marry. When war breaks out she is rescued by Laird Magnus who marries her for her protection. He takes her back to his home and waits for angry English people to come for Arbella. I can’t say it makes total sense but it’s not too far fetched. Just not very compelling. However vegetarians may enjoy Arbella’s meat-free cooking sessions.
