Let’s put it this way: I’ve owned a SodaStream machine since 2012. For nearly 10 years, only once have I ever followed the manufacturer’s recommendation. Every one of the thousand of other times, I have carbonated coffee, juice (btw: nothing like making sparking apple cider for 1/8th the price of Marinellis!) beer, Gatorade, flattened soda, MILK… you name it! AND I CARBONATE EVERYTHING INSIDE THE BOTTLE ITSELF; FORGET HAVING TO CARBONATE THE WATER ONLY AND THEN ADD IT TO WHATEVER IT IS YOU’RE MAKING. Just keep the machine close to your sink on the rare chance it overflows (which is hardly ever). Nonetheless, this also allows one to clean the machine which I do by turning it upside down inside of the sink and then use a spray wand to quickly rinse off any substance that you don’t want sticking to SodaStream itself. After a quick rinse, depress the button once or twice for a second or two max to make sure nothing sticky has clogged up the fizz wand apparatus, and you’re good to go. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE OVERLY CAUTIOUS SIMPLY BECAUSE SODASTREAM “PLANTS” THIS IN OUR HEADS. Honestly folks, it’s not rocket science.

Q: where is the cap for the bottle? I am very disappointed we cannot use it right away

Each bottle, from the one included in the Soda Stream box, to any extra that you buy, all come with a cap. If yours did not, call Soda Stream - they are REALLY nice and helpful, and will make it right - but first check all the packaging, to make sure you didn't overlook it! They are usually on the bottle, but if loose, might have fallen off into the box! We've had a couple of Soda Streams, and extra bottles, and have never not gotten a cap!
