Also, the up to 1500 fps will be determine by the weight of the pellet. Heavier is slower and lighter is faster. Sonic boom happens around 1100 fps. So if you hear the "crack", kinda like a shooting a .22LR rifle... You know you are going faster than 1100 fps. Review: tried tested and approved - Accuracy is no problem. Power is no problem. Noise is no problem. โThe more you shoot the quieter this rifle gets and the better you shoot.โ Allow me to address any question or concern. Now I am very huge on accuracy and am an expert shooter, I will revisit this point later. To start: Step 1 this rifle out of the box should be cleaned of excess grease and oil, run a bore brush through the barrel too. Step 2 Tighten all screws with a screwdriver, the two stock screws, the trigger, and butt plate. & scope mounts and scope. Important important important...tighten the big screw holding the barrel to the receiver. You will need to remove the stock to access this screw. That will be the two side screws on the stock and the two in the trigger well. NOTE: this is a magnum air gun, shooting it will loosen ALL screws throughout this rifle. Use blue Loctite. Step#3 Break it in shooting cheap daisy pellets into the dirt or a whatever. This is not for practice, only to break in the rifle. (Needs to have a break-in period. in this period this rifle is burning off excess oil and grease and seating in all its components. Failure to do this will result in poor accuracy.) 150-500 pellets. Next: IMPORTANT this rifle likes 10.5 grain and up pellets. Anything less will cause poor accuracy. Recommend Crosman Premier ultra mags domed. Or JSB exact monsters 13.4 grain. Look itโs like this, the more weight (grain) of the pellet, the more accurate this rifle. Reason for this is this is a Super Mag rifle. Light grain pellets will become unstable flying out of this thing at blazing speeds loosing accuracy. Heavy is better, more kinetic energy delivered on target means more destruction. This is Crossman big dog flag ship of break barrels. It is worth the money if youโre interested in moving up in shooting ability. Follow these steps and your new xl1500 will be the pride of your collection. Last few things, if youโre having problems with shooting this rifle after reviewing these steps then revisit to your shooting techniques. Donโt call crosman. Their cust service just says to exchange it. These steps will make this rifle perform and remove frustration. Ps. revisiting my past statementโฆIโm getting nickel groups consistently at 50 feet in a sitting position. @ 100 feet Iโm still getting picking off birds holding over .25 mil dot on the scope provided. I recommend this rifle.

Over all not bad
I've had the gun for a little under a month now, I have the 177 cal version, and I can't say I'm displeased with it. I have already killed 3 squirrels with it. However for the price they could have had a higher quality scope included. Some reviews said it wouldn't hold a zero, but that wasn't the case for me. It has no covers for the turrets though so it can get nocked if your not careful. I have tried some different ammo types and so far it only likes 2 of them, daisy flat nosed and Crosman piranha pellets. All the rest leave a black dust in the barrel, make it very inaccurate, and make it louder than a 22. Lr rifle. But with the one it likes it's much quieter, as for the break in peroid, I really didn't notice much of a difference in anything at all. The trigger is bad but you can adjust it, the thing is that you can't make it perfect with the screw in the gun, but I got it good enough for me. And lastly, the gun needs to be lubricated every 250 shots, and I recommend cleaning it then as well. But the thing is the gun doesn't come with the lubricant so you have to buy it. And it's very specific. You will need Crosman silicone oil. Over all not bad and I would say it's worth the price. The reviews that say it's really inaccurate are just cases of bad marksmanship. All you need to shoot it and enjoy it is, a new scope, the oil, good arm strength, (because it is quite heavy) and a small flat head screwdriver. Read the instructions and your good. Do not dry fire.

I have owned 3 previous airguns (break barrel) and was not happy with the stopping power for varmints (squirrels)
I bought this gun 4 months ago and provide the following information based on my experience: I have owned 3 previous airguns (break barrel) and was not happy with the stopping power for varmints (squirrels). After doing tons of research, I bought this rifle and after 4 months of using (4 times a week) I am very satisfied. A couple things to note: - Lots of power, hard to cock rifle for younger or smaller individuals. - Gun is fairly heavy for free shooting, have something to prop gun on or buy shooting stick - Scope is great value and am very satisfied. However, I am not a scope snob. - Accuracy is fantastic. Must buy heavy pellets! Shooting 2" groupings at 30 yards. use these pellets... JSB Diabolo Exact Monster .177 Caliber Air Gun Pellets - Did not have a rifle sling or swivel... I bought these and am very pleased... Braudel Super Sling Swivels,Quick Detachable Swivel with Tri-Lock,1.25 Inch,Not Fade,Round Edge,Valentine's Day Gifts For Men bought sling at local sport store... - Gun is extremely loud if you are not using the heavier pellets. Can shoot in backyard with heavy pellets with close neighbors and nobody complains... with lighter pellets it sounds like a .22!!! - Did not take an earlier reviewers suggestion... locktite screws that hold piston to wood stock, realized this morning one had backed out. and was lost. They appear to have locktite on the one that is still there, but just not enough... Hopefully found a replacement at my local hardware store... will save you heartache to do out of box. Overall, this setup is a great turnkey gun/rifle for squirrel hunting.

Purchase exceeded all of my expectations
I purchased this air rifle this month with the intent to hunt squirrel and rabbit. The owner's manual stated that there was a 100 round break-in period for the gun. This is not unusual it seems, because several firearms that I bought new had similar break-in periods. After putting the first 50 rounds through it I noted that the patterns went from all over the place to nice tight groupings at 25 yards (I can now typically cover groups of 10 with a nickel). It went from this crazy all over the place shooting to the nice groupings within a span of 10 to 15 firings. It was pretty cool actually to watch the patterns improve like they did. Things continue to get better as I have found that for this gun the Crosman Hollow Point ammo seems to work best (so far anyway, granted I have only tried 3 other kinds of pellets). It does not at all like the Crosman Super Points, but I have a friend whose high power air rifle performs very well with them. If you buy this air rifle I recommend also buying a sampling of different pellet types and AFTER the break-in period taking the time to compare ammo to find the one that best suits your gun. This can be a fun exercise if you have patience and allow yourself to enjoy the process. It was easy to outfit the gun with the scope and the scope is good quality and perfect for the shooting I will be doing. I have put lots of rounds through since zeroing the scope and it has held true. Regarding the noise: It is a heck of a lot quieter than my Ruger 10/22! I have not fired any alloy pellets though, so I imagine that if I did the supersonic crack would be comparable. There also is very little recoil, especially when compared to several of the spring model break barrels I have fired. The gun is heavy, which is a feature I like. I do recommend buying a strap if you do not have one (I thought the gun came with one, although there is clearly no mention of one in the description so it was definitely my wrong). I would finally like to add that it is a nice looking gun. The wood stock is well finished, the grip and fore-end are nicely checkered and the Benjamin name is etched underneath the fore-end. The barrel is nicely finished as well. My gun came free of any blemishes. I like this one so much I am now going to have to save up my money to buy the .22 version!

Cannot find accurate pellets
I do like this pellet gun. My only complaint is that it is difficult to find the right pellet for the gun. Maybe that is just the pellet gun world and it's normal? The scope is a bare minimum to get by but I have hit targets at 60 yards, but not on a consistent level. It's a shoot and see adjustment scope. Adjust and shoot and see where it lands, but shoot a group of 10 so see where that center is. Some pellets just don't like this gun. You have to find the right pellet for the gun. That's for sure. It's not, this brand of gun takes this brand of pellets. It's more like, this specific gun likes this specific pellet.

Not impressed
I purchased this rifle with the expectation that an air rifle that cost this much should be a quality rifle. The area in which I live has no shops specific to air rifles, and I have not had an opportunity to try out different guns. When I got the rifle, I purchased several types/ weights of pellets to use as tests for accuracy. The first thing that I noticed was the trigger. Very long pull, and difficult to use. The first stage has about a 1/4" travel. The second stage, even adjusted as light as possible is not at all crisp, and also has a great deal of travel. The first 2-300 shots were fired from a rest, and I was lucky to keep a 5" group at 30 ft. The heavier pellets shot better, with the light ones spreading to about 6" groups. I now have 600 shots through the gun, and still cannot get the groups consistently under 2"@30 ft from a rest. I changed out the scope, and could not get an improvement. I have used pellets ranging from 4gr through 10gr, from four manufacturers. I will try a couple more when I can find them, and if there is no improvement, I will get rid of the gun. Crosman rep via e mail recommended that I send it back, but I am afraid to throw good money after bad. With shipping in for repair, I will have another $50 in the gun.
