Fowler 52-240-005-1, Outside Inch Micrometer With 4-5" Measuring Range, Factory

Just as good as the higher cost brands I've used. Accurate and MOST IMPORTANTLY "repeatable" results. Great for measuring pistons. I've already used it on Mitsubishi 4g63 and Toyota 2zz-ge pistons. Will be keeping this one.

I remember when Fowler first started selling tools. They started out low price and then as their popularity increased, so did the price. I was amazed to find this set at such a low price. Fowlers prices have actually come back down. This is no cheap tool. It is as well built and accurate as any Starrett at more than half the price. I am once again sold on Fowler.

Good read out. Works well

I bought the 1"-2" version for a cheap price. I bought it because I wanted the metal ratchet thimble to swap over to a Mitutoyo Mic which comes with a plastic one. The swap worked good and now I got a cheap back up Mic as well. It repeats ok. Build quality is lacking. Needs a good cleaning and some grease. Feels gritty. But I didn't expect much. I'm surprised that it actually repeats. Bottom line: you get what you pay for. If you need a nice mic, keep looking. If you just want it for a basic knock-around mic or spare parts it'll be ok. It gets 4 stars from me because it's actually slightly better than expected

Used this to build an engine. So, I would have to say it was well worth the money I paid for it.

These things are surprisingly top quality. I used them daily at my job holding .ooo4+/- tolerances. They pass every 6 months they are recertified. I am so suprised to find a pair this cheap with thisbgood of quality. The case is even holding up very well. Just get use to the texture of the case before carrying one handed. And whatever you do tell your co worker no when they want to borrow them. Hahaha

Fowler are good (Ameri/nese) tools. But the thimble on mine was bent and hung up. More than likely dropped at my door step instead of placed down. I see them do it all the time everywhere. Amazon delivery van drivers walk up to the door and literally drop your stuff you pay for on concrete patios. I even have a few on my ring camera doing it. Amazon really needs to look into this and start immediately firing people for it. My new one that came was placed standing up against my door and the new mic works great and accurate compared to one of my toyo’s. So Fowler gets 5 stars Amazon (some) drivers gets 0

For a cheap micrometer, it seems to be better than the "super cheap" alternatives. I have a full set of standards so I can set it as needed off of them and it handles a 0.0001-0.0002" accuracy fine.

Keeps its accuracy. Well built and easy to use. Great value.

It’s 10 times worth what you pay for

Good: -It works and seems repeatable -Was zeroed well -Has a ratchet (I never use them) -Nice crinkle paint -Good case with a proper (plastic) hong and cute little stamped metal latches Bad: -Was notchy for the first 1/4" until I spun it in and out a couple times. Obviously not perfectly clean inside somewhere. -The diagram in the instructions is discombobulated. Part names/arrows/numbers messed up but you'll figure it out. -The lock is tiny and a bit hokey, it is made of a chromy stamping. -The frame is a bit lightweight. You won't want to bang it around. All in all it works but do not expect Starrett or Mitutoyo quality on fit and finish. It measures fine, so for the price I would buy another one.
