Would this work as an adult coloring & computer desk? I see a lot of people using this for their kids. Is it also suitable for adults?

Yes! I'm an adult and I use it all the time for my 17" laptop. I use it as a lap desk and also put on top of a table or tall bed to convert the space to a stand-up desk. It's nice and sturdy.

It comes assembled ....just unfold it..I'm using it right now....Get one! You won't regret it.

Will this work, maintain balance, if it sets on a couch or bed?

I bought this to use in bed for reading. It is very stable. The legs stay open until I close them.
