Can you adjust the width of the compartments inside the drawer?

It is not adjustable The middle section is a little bigger than the outside compartments

What are the dimensions of each of the slots in the bottom tray?

Sorry I can't give exact dimensions at this time. I know the center slot is at least 4.25 x 5.5 as my embossing folder's fit in it. I would estimate the others are about 2.5 to 3" wide. Hope this helps.

Do I need to buy tools to assemble this or does it come with it's own? What tools are needed to assemble this?

Yes, You need buy 1 cross screwdriver to assemble.
