How frequently do the filters need to be replaced?

Apparently our battery was not working because it did not beep after 6 months. Didn't notice any difference in water taste. But I recently decided to check if filters need to be changed and found out that last time I changed them was 5 years ago! Again water taste great comparing to unfiltered. Ordered and installed new set in Feb 2020 and put a reminder for 2025 to order new set.

Why is a battery necessary?

I just replaced the 3 filters on ours for the 1st time, started beeping about one week ago, started beeping after exact 6 months, with the new 3 filters also included a new battery, I think when you change the battery it automatically does a 180 day reset (6 months) and will start beeping in 6 months, the old filters look like they were doing there job because they were dirty.

My wife and I would only use the filter for drinking water and use less than 300 gallons in a year, does that mean the filters would last two years?

I recommend replacing the filters every 6 months no mater how many gallons you use. Since these filters trap lots of impurities, this can lead to creation of unwanted mold and bacteria. I would not use them longer than what is recommended. It's a small price to pay to keep on drinking healthy water.

Does it remove flouride?

No, this system is not certified for fluoride removal.
