Homax Group 8424 Roll On Paint Texture Additive Suede Mix with One Gallon Paint

Since Lowes discontinued my Valspar Suede paint, I had to search for a suitable alternative. This works great. Roll the first coat on in one direction using vertical strokes from top to bottom. The second coat is applied in a series of overlapping X's 3-5 inches. The result is a beautiful wall that looks like suede fabric on the wall. Time consuming but well worth it. Also looks great rolled on normally. Best if used in low traffic areas, as it doesn't take to hard scrubbing too well. Looks really amazing. Must be mixed with a drill attachment paint mixer for optimal results. Use a bigger bucket to mix in. Do not attempt to mix a gallon of paint and this suede additive in the gallon paint container. It will make a big mess.

Works as designed

This is not a true suede paint, it leaves a very rough texture on the wall which is hard to even out even with multiple coats. I have used suede paint in many projects, and it does not usually leave this type of a rough feeling on the walls. I’m going to try painting over this and hopefully I can hide it without having to sand a lot. I bought two but am out of my return window so I guess I’m stuck with the other one. It’s more of a gritty sand feeling.

Purchased this product in my local store some years back to cover imperfections in drywall so I knew it was the look I was going for. I purchased this product this time to cover paneling. Worked great. I used joint compound on the lines/seams of the paneling first then used this texture for a seamless look. When I added this product to semigloss paint, it had a slight sheen instead of the semigloss look. If you want a sheen, you can probably do a second coat of satin or semigloss without adding the texture. You may want to mix the paint and texture in a larger bucket.

This product did not really add the texture I was looking for. Very possibly user error but not what I was going for.

My wife and I had wanted to do a suede wall finish for some time but the paint choices were too limited (Ralph Lauren Brand), not the color we were looking for. It is interesting that my local big box store carries every other HOMAX product but this one. Must be more profitable selling $50 a gallon 'suede' paint vs. this additive for regular paint.The paint went on easy enough. Be prepared that adding this product to your paint will cut down the coverage per gallon by about 1/3 to 1/2. Plan on two coats, and as others have said, using about 1/2 of this product per gallon works well.

I was hopeful that this product would be a good substitute for the Ralph Lauren and Valspar brands of suede finish paints that are no longer available. I was very pleased as I was able to get the same finish as both of the discontinued brands. It is underrated as a finish.

This stuff worked like a charm. Looks like a professional came in. My daughters were impressed. I did mix in a separate container as others suggested. Did one coat with plain paint, then another coat with this additive (after adding a small amount of water as mine was very thick). Looks awesome!
