Not for me
I bought it, because I am thinking of train my dog to be a service dog (I have fibromyalgia) and I am pretty disappointed. Most is just training your dog obedience (there a ton of books about that) and I have a lot of books about dogs. This book is for the total novice and who wants to train there dog as a service dog, when they have no knowledge about basic training, like sit, stay, come and down? And when you need a service dog, you should already know the laws etc.And than......time-out for a dog? Really? Don't use human psychology on a dog, they won't get it. Know more about dog psychology, and the best books for that are in my opinion the books of Cesar Millan. I thought my dog Cesar's way from the beginning when I got her - she was 10 weeks old) and she only once snatched a piece of bread form my plate (she was only 3 or 4 months old) and never again. And I only use positive reinforcement. She peed very little in the house when we got her, she was housebroken in about 10 days (I watched her closely and took her out after 30 min. after a meal and once at night when she barked. She is crate trained and it was very easy. Read books about how dogs tick from the dog perspective before you get a puppy. If you are consistentThis book is for the absolute beginner, who have no knowledge what so ever. Finally on page 122 I found "The making of a service dog" and again, only some "silly" stories, when I say silly I mean sharing stories of out of control dogs, because the guardians don't do, exercise, boundaries and limitations, than affection.Than a little morsel about clicker training on page 139...And some more stories. If you are a total newcomer to dog training, get the book and lots of others. If you want to train a dog as a service dog, skip this, otherwise you will be disappointed.

Great book!
I enjoyed this book. It helped in my choosing a dog to train to be my service dog. It also brought to light that this is a process, that will take time, but will be well worth it in the end. I don't have $20,000 to get an already trained dog, so this is the best way for me to get a dog that will help me. Dee is also a fantastic trainer that I would recommend to anyone.

Title doesn't fit what is actually in this book.
Not very much instruction in this book. The book should be titled " A guide to choosing and methods of training your own service dog". There are no particular step by step training methods in here, just suggestions for training.
