There are very good leather punches for the price. One tap with a hammer and it's through, sometimes a second tap if needed. very sharp and do the job better than other leather punches in this price range.

Great little hole punches. They were covered in a light coating of oil to prevent rust. Cleaned them off and put them to work on a project. No issues at all.

Seem to work fine to me! Im a newbie to leather, so went on the cheaper end for my tools. After reading the reviews on these, i decided to take my chances. Yeah, they were a little oily when they got here, but thats not at all unusual for steel tools.For those that said they were dull out of the box: try a different cutting platform! I started out on my crafting desk, a lightweight hollowform ikea table, with a self healing mat. I was having a hard time getting through the leather, so i did try sharpening the one i was working on... It still didnt do much. I assumed i just didnt know what i was doing when it came to sharpening.Then i moved over to my workbench- a solid wood beast from harbor freight. Bam! One hammer hit, straight through, no issue. I grabbed one of the non-self-sharpened ones: bam! Right through! Soft leather, thin leather, thick stiff leather- one good tap on a solid surface was making short work of these half circles.So... Dont blame the tools for your sub par work surface!

This set of punches were well made and easy to use on small jobs. All I need for my line of work.

Great set of leather punches for the price. Obviously not a HD set, but for occasional use..... perfect!

These punches are relatively well made and are easily used. They are very sharp and punch holes easily into leather of at least a four ounce thickness. The only issues that I have for them is that they have sharp edges in places where they should not be and that they rust. The rusting can be remedied with a small amount of Rem Oil or other light oil and a small file used to knock sharp edges down where they should not be. I recommend them and would buy more if needed.

Out of the box, my set was useless for punching clean holes. I was able to sharpen them freehand on a set of small diamond plates (any sharpening stone/plate should work), after which they performed very well.If you have the means to sharpen these (and have more time than money), then go for it. Otherwise, I'd spend a bit more on a better quality set.FWIW, I consider myself a novice sharpener, and I was easily able to get these to a good level of sharpness. They sharpened quickly, so I doubt the claims of these being hardened steel, but if you're just punching leather and other soft materials, it probably doesn't matter much.
