Caliart 81 Colors Alcohol Markers for Adult Coloring Books, Fine & Chisel

I bought these for my 10-year-old daughter, who is always drawing, coloring, and creating something new. She absolutely loves them! The colors are so bright and vibrant, and they make her artwork really pop. We've been really impressed with the quality. She uses them often, and they have lasted a long time without drying out. The carrying case is also a great bonus because it keeps everything organized and makes it easy for her to grab them and start creating. These have quickly become her favorite markers. If you have a child who loves art, this set is definitely worth it!

I've been testing these alongside my Prismacolor set for a couple weeks and I have to say... I like the color range of these (and price) much more. These self level better, too. The blend is immaculate. They do bleed through heavy paper, so make sure you have a color absorber underneath your pages. But that just means they're saturated in color. They're super comfortable to hold and the caps are not hard to get off. Also, a carrying case with a strap? Crayola could never. The blending stick works super well to blend those stubborn lines if you let edges dry, (because the ink dries super quickly as these are alcohol based markers, so it does happen often). Also not a strong smell like Prismacolor markers, but I have noticed they're not as long-lasting unfortunately. Very close though. I illustrate and color for hours every day, so I go through markers pretty quickly. So I feel confident in saying that if you're looking for better quality markers for say, leisurely coloring, and you're sick of Crayola and CrazyArt, these are perfect for you. The only things that would make these markers top dog in my opinion would be to change the caps so they can connect to one another and color match the indicator colors better to the dried ink. I don't know how many times I lost the cap to the marker I was using, so I had to be very mindful where I placed it. Since the colors in the pens were not reflected very well on the caps, I made a color sheet to reference, but I still made a few mistakes here and there until I got in the groove. I also wish the tips were a bit more flexible. Certain ones get to the point of having softer tips the more you use them, but others haven't broken in as easily. Still, don't let these personal nitpicky cons deter you. I'm extremely picky and use these all day, every day so it's difficult for a seasoned artist not to notice these things. Even still, these are very small prices to pay for affordable, vibrant, and sleek markers. I plan to buy more when these run out. And that's saying something.

I normally use pencil, sharpies, and acrylic paints for my work. However, when I wanted to make something special for my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson those media just wouldn't let me produce the image I was looking for. My son is an Anime fan, so I wanted to caricature them based on one of his favorite Anime series. So, I sketched out "DragonBall V" for Valentine’s day. As I said I found my normal media would not allow me to produce the look of the series on screen as I would have liked. I tried some color markers I had but they were of the cheaper grocery store variety and the results were not what I hoped, and they were not very permanent either. I looked at Amazon and found this Caliart 40 Colors set (with dual tips) to be a great price and from the reviews they seemed to be what I was looking for. I have attached the picture I made for my son and his family and I have to say the results were great with them. Even in the photo the colors are vibrant. There is some light reflection that grays out some areas but that is not the makers it is the lighting of the photo but even so I think you can see it does have that Anime type look (at least to my son and his family they loved being made into these characters). Now with only 40 colors I was a little limited and had to use colored pencil on the logo and sky background, but these worked out well and did not detract from the picture. I made a color map using of all the colors which was easy using the number and letters on each marker. The broad tip and thin tips on each end made covering large and small areas easy too. These are my first Manga type markers but if you are new to this and want to try out some good product at a nice price, I recommend these.

Overall I like the markers. Although one of them did leak and get all over multiple other markers. I like the markers, they work well. My only issue is that a good majority of the markers are not true to the color on the cap. I mean there's a few that are just a completely different color it's a bit shocking. With these, the color is always multiple shades darker than what's pictured on the cap. But that's only a few within 81 markers so I'm not going to complain too much. My only other issue is a few of the colors are similar. Not a lot, but a few yes. I noticed it mostly with the purples as you can see in my photo of the swatches. There are 3 or 4 different purples that are all the same shade. Almost black purple and a few of those, again, were actually pictured much lighter on the cap of the marker. Other than these issues I like them. They work well. Beautiful colors. A lot of different shades for when you're coloring people. Different shades for different skin tones. And I like how there's a range with each color. Different undertones for different colors. Warmer cooler and neutral, and that's not just for the skin tone colors but the rest as well. I think it's a great variety. There doesn't seem to be a true red though. Overall I'm pleased with my purchase! They are beautiful!

i just love these. screw copics and whatever, those are nice and all but once you get the technique down? these are easily as good in my opinion. fantastic for artists who aren't so dedicated as to spend hundreds on supplies, or who don't have as much. i recieved their 70 pack as a gift after buying these, and god do i love them. they're just as vibrant and easy to blend as any other alcohol marker. it would be nice to have a brush tip, but you can get the same effect with a little precision using the fine tip on these. they run dry after a good few months of steady use, but the lesser used ones can last you a year or more. buying a new set is no problem with this price! as for technique, i'm not sure how quickly markers like copics dry, but these do pretty fast. when blending any colors, pick out your markers beforehand so you can quickly swap between them before the ink dries. otherwise, they wont blend without many layers (which bleed through most paper) and unless you layer on a lot, strokes will show. careful when using the thicker side for the first few times, as well, because a lot of ink will come out and may spread a tiny bit or make a larger space a bit lopsided and darker in spots. it's not the biggest deal, but it can make a large area look uneven in a water color type way. after a bit of use, though, the ink dispersal levels out and you don't have to worry about it anymore. anyway! definitely a great step from sketching to something more professional looking. if you're trying to find what coloring medium you may want to try, markers are much more precise and controlled than paint, but require more work and effort (just in how much they cover compared to a paintbrush), but they are much easier on the hands than colored pencils (for blending, for vibrant colors, and if you're seeking a smooth texture).

These markers are great. I wanted some alcohol based markers but honestly didn’t want to spend a ton of money to try them. I kept searching around on different website and different brands and Caliart ended up being the best value and lowest per unit price with fairly good reviews as well! All of my markers worked right out of the bag and I experienced no dry markers. All produced the same amount of flow as the others. I will say that the cap color doesn’t always give an accurate representation of the actual ink color but I will say the colors are uniform, vibrant, and blend fairly well. As for a colorless blender this set (40 Colors Dual Tip) does not come with one. At least in 2019 when I purchased mine they did not. There are many available online however. This pack does have some colors that could be used as flesh tones as well. They come in a small zippered bag that for me at least has been very durable. These also feature a fine and a broad angle tip so that you can focus on both line work and fills. For anyone who has not used these types of markers before do know that they will bleed into the paper some so when filling in spaces do not go to close to the lines at first. The amount of bleed will also be determined by the quality of paper. These are great for a beginner and or intermediate or anyone who just wants to experiment at least in my opinion.

I bought these markers on a lightning deal, because 80 markers for $25 was too good of a deal to pass up. I was planning on getting the Ohuhu brush markers since everyone has been raving about them, but ultimately I decided that as a beginner I wanted to make it easier on myself by having more color choice until I learned how everything blended together. I did not regret my decision. These markers lay down so smoothly, and they blend like a dream once you get the hang of it. The trick really is to work quickly to blend, as they blend very nicely when still wet. I use these markers in my Denik sketchbook, which has thicker paper with a smooth texture. I do get bleedthrough on ocassions, especially when layering a lot, but that is to be expected with any alcohol marker. Even Copics, which I also have a small handful of. They are bright and vibrant, and the 80 set is a great mix of tones. It is mostly mid tones, but I still am able to find a good majority of what I need. The skin tones are where my biggest complaints are, as I don't have anything super light or many in the tan and olive range. That is where my Copic collection comes in. Comparing these markers to Copics is like comparing a $1,000 Macbook to a $200 Chromebook, but I will make a few comparisons anyways since quality is important to consider. These do not have brush nibs, which does make blending slightly more difficult. Copics also have a higher quality ink in them meaning they naturally want to blend together. However, with the bullet nib I have been able to get smooth blending anyways with a little more work. These markers have about the same amount of smell to Copics, though it's a bit more noticeable when you lay down heavy amounts on paper. Once it dries, the scent is gone. Both these Caliart markers and Copics are very juicy and the ink lays down with not problems, however the Copics feel slightly wetter (if that makes sense) which as aforementioned makes for easier blending and in my opinion smoother, less streaky lay down. This can easily be accomplished with the Caliart markers too though, but it does take up more ink since you have to layer the colors a bit more to get that nice and smooth finish. Ink usage brings me to this next point. These markers are non-refillable, though I believe they match up with the ShinHan Touch line of inks if you're able to find them. You also cannot currently buy individual markers, meaning if you run out of one you have to buy an entire new set if you want that marker. That being said, I'm sure they assume you will upgrade before you run out of any ink in the markers. These are very much entry level, and are likely to be used by people like me who want to know if they like the medium or not, or by hobbyists who want cheap markers. This set has provided exactly that service to me, as I feel more comfortable now with markers and if I find myself using these a lot I'm sure I will find some way to upgrade to the bigger brands that have more options for individual replacements. As a beginner, these markers are lovely for the price. They have been great to work with and I understand 10x more about alcohol markers now without emptying my bank account. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a new step further into the art world!

I got a larger batch of these markers years ago, and decided to get another (the one for this product review) recently because I love them that much. All I can say really is that they're pretty good, some very nice colors and vibrancy, I only wished that there were more skin options to use though, but besides that, they're really good for the price. Some dry immediately, while some others, like the more reddish and blue colors are bleed a lot. But a good sharpie pen can help a lot though. Nonetheless, out of the batch, I did end up with only 2 defected marker, 1 was immediately dry upon use, and the other ran out of marker juice after a certain period of use. Knowing how well my last batch of markers were, I hope this isn't the case with others if I seek for more.
