Character Reactions from Head to Toe (Indie Author Resources Book 1)

What a great and handy wee read. As an author myself, I found this useful for my second draft. In my first draft, I just bash out the story, getting the narrative and plot mostly sorted. In my second draft, I rip through the words and begin to find better ways of expressing my ideas. This is where this wee book really comes in handy. My only suggestion for the next edition is to put more ideas in as I am sure it could be double the size. If you are a writer looking to break the prosaic nature of your prose - buy this.

I love this little book. Inexpensive but powerful. If you're like me and you love to find just the right way to show what's happening to characters (instead of boring narratives), this book is for you. Howard's book won't write the scene, but it will give you ideas that you can immediately put to work. Minutes after the book appeared in my Kindle, I had it open on one half of my computer screen while I typed the character's reaction into Scrivener on the other side. Valerie Howard's little book is chocked full of ideas that will have your boys in the basement working overtime.

I found this somewhat helpful when I'm looking for a reaction for my character, but there are some cliche and overused reactions in this book. Otherwise, I like the way it is structured and it is easy to find what you need. Nice job and if I might make a suggestion for the second release date or revision, eliminate some of the most common reactions and use alternatives. An excellent value for the price. I dabble in creative fiction and while I may not always find the exact descriptions I want to use in this book, I always come away with a good idea of what I want to say. I’d recommend this to anyone who is not already a master of fiction, and hardly anyone is.

1,000 Character Reactions makes it sound like a big book with many more details and examples. It would have been nice if it had offered more. I began scanning this book for helpful phrases and suddenly found myself at the end far to early! Nothing jumped out at me as being really useful and the phrases were just more of the common ones used every day.

Extremely helpful for writers who are adjusting their WIP! Now my characters can do more than just widen their eyes and sigh 😂

I bought this to give my mind a break while writing my novel, because sometimes my ADHD kicks in and I can't remember what words to use. This book was extremely helpful with coming up with other words than the usual boring character reactions. It has made my writing much easier!

I turn to the content in this book every day as I write. Very helpful in keeping my content fresh and visceral to the reader. 9/10

I picked this up as something to help me in writing (character behaviors, actions, expressions, etc.) and found it to be a good resource that also gave me ideas.

Valerie Howard's book is carefully planned and written to help authors find the phrase that a character needs when he/ she reacts. There's a checklist for body parts, like eyes, hands, lips and head. Rather than repeating something, this book is clever in its practical ways of creating possibilities for a writer. Reactions for eyelids, eyebrows and even toes give a clearer image that engages a reader. What characters do is the idea behind this gem.

Perfect addition to my tool kits that help bolster my writing in a positive manner. Gives plenty of descriptive phases that I wouldn't have necessarily thought about. Finding many different ways to describe how a reaction can be performed. Definitely a useful tool of you're struggling new ways to explain something without sounding repetitive

I found this book helpful in spurring my imagination along. We sometimes get lost in wanting a reaction from one of our characters, and this list will help you to work out a good reaction. Thanks
