I'm not looking to write a negative review about this product, but simply describe the reality of it versus my expectations of it. To start with, the reason I chose this product among all the others was based mainly on an article I read on some cooking website that said you could only get this brand from Chinese food restaurant suppliers. And on some reviews I read here on Amazon. Some said it was "just like the kind they get at a Chinese food restaurant". So that's what I was looking for. But I have learned that "just as good as the kind you get from a Chinese restaurant" it's totally relative to what part of the country you live in, as they can differ greatly. Here in Massachusetts I am used to a sweeter duck sauce that has a darker color and has the consistency of a very runny applesauce. And, of course, it's a mystery as to what is actually in it. An educated guess would be puréed apricots and/or plums. So, that is what I was hoping for here. The reality was quite different. Of course the color, based on the photos here on Amazon, seemed much lighter, but I did not let that deter me. I figured as long as it tastes good I don't care what color it is. For my first taste, I put some on my finger and tried it. The first thing I noticed was how salty it is. I thought, "Oh boy, I just wasted my money." Then I thought, "What can I add to it to make it sweeter?" Long story short, I added some honey and a splash of cran/pineapple juice to it and it was not bad actually. LOL I combined 9 or 10 packets in a small bowl and used it as a dipping sauce for Panko coated chicken tenders that I baked. It was OK. My search for the perfect duck sauce continues…
