WR-15WL AM/FM Table Top Wooden Radio, Walnut

This radio and speaker is really excellent. And it’s a great deal for the price. It’s a little larger than I expected but that is undoubtedly partly why it sounds so good. I wanted this type of device so I could use it as speaker for my desktop computer (via mini stereo jack out of computer and into this speaker) as well as to have a radio on my desk. A few specifics: PROS - The sound quality is amazingly good. Full, not tinny. Good bass response. This unit replaces a Tivoli Pal and this cheaper radio sounds better. Now, it’s a good deal larger, so the speaker has the benefit of a bigger cabinet, so it should sound better. (The Tivoli sounds great, of course, but this sounds better.) - I wanted to be able to switch it from FM to AUX (for computer speaker) WITHOUT having to unplug the cable from computer to the Sangean unit. That works GREAT. Now I can switch back and forth as I want to from computer to radio without changing anything else. Why does that matter to me? On the Tivoli radios, you have to unplug anything plugged into the AUX jack in order for the radio to play. So, sure, it has that little switch on the front (most all the Tivoli’s do) to go between AM, FM, AUX or AUX/BT, but you cannot leave something plugged into AUX and just switch to the radio. As much as I am a Tivoli fan, this is a significant design flaw if you plan to use the AUX jack and the radio, a good deal. Now, for portability, the Tivoli PAL has it all over this unit. This is NOT portable. It’s a good sized table radio. - The lighting of the retro tuner is really nice. Soft, warm, and retro. - Controls feel good. Solid, logical, and simple. CONS - Tuning on this unit (the Sangean) is weaker than the Tivoli models. It’s undoubtedly simulating an analogue tuner dial but is actually probably digital, as it can lock in a station in odd ways, going from one direction (up) or (down) in slightly different places on the dial. Hard to describe but I saw someone on a radio expert website trying to describe this type of behavior. - The FM dial is right on, in terms of numbers and location of stations. The AM dial is off a good 50 points. So, if you are tuning a station at 750, you might be finding that station at 800 instead of 750. I do not like that, but it’s something I can live with. - As others have noted, AM may not be this radio’s strength. If you have a strong area and station you like, signal wise, and you can orient the radio to get it tuned right, you should be fine. It does have connections for external AM antenna, which is pretty great for a radio at this price point. Bottom line. Seems made very well. Solid. Hefty. Really surprisingly great sound. Audio quality is really good for both music and voice. It’s very pleasant to listen to.

We wanted a simple radio. Nothing else. This did the trick. Small, stylish and sounds great - perfect. Picks up all my stations without a problem.

Amazing quality in build. Feels like a vintage radio from back in the 1960s. But the sound is very good quality for what appears to be a single speaker radio. There’s even a bass tuning port on the back side of the radio along with a few modern day features. I’m running the radio out in my shop so that I can listen to local broadcasts on FM and AM without having to use my internet connection. The really cool feature is that the radio runs on 12VDC at around 1.5 amps, so I can use a backup supply in the event of a power outage. The optional antenna terminals are a nice feature as well. The sound quality is pretty good. It’s not like J## quality, but it sounds deep and rich at normal listening levels. There is no blue tooth feature on this device but a talented audiophile could rig up an independent blue tooth device to plug into the AUX port on the radio and there’s a onob setting for AUX on the AM/FM dial.

Great looks, great sound, really fine tuning, great price

I really like retro-looking AM/FM radios like when I was a kid in the 1960's. I got this table top AM/FM radio in the real walnut wood casing on it. First off, this is a real amazing looking radio, the AM/FM tuning dial actually is lit when this device is turned on and has a green LED light for tuned in local radio stations. It has an on/off/volume knob and the AM/FM/AUX knob and that's it for buttons or knobs on this device. Sound quality is very nice with a decent bass sound to it. Note, this radio has a bass port hole on its backside too for improved bass, I guess. I can pick up mainly local AM and FM radio stations and with the wire FM antenna included, I was able to pick up more distant FM stations I never heard of with this radio. It looks good, built very well, small in size and good radio reception. Only negative issue is no bass control knob or switch on this radio, otherwise a great radio. 4 stars

Gave this as a gift for someone who loves to listen classical music on the radio and they love it. Looks great and the simple design makes it easy to use. A lot of thought has clearly gone into its design as it tries to auto-tune to the station it thinks you're trying to find and the sound quality is phenomenal. There are options for additional external antenna or external speakers but those are not necessary (i do not have them so i can't comment on their quality). At it's most basic form you can just plug and play with no complicated setup. While this is a great product, this is definitely a luxury product. You have to accept that you are paying a premium for what is basically just a very nice radio. For 1/3 of the money you could get a generic clock radio and have a slightly worse but similar listening experience. That being said, there is value in the extra dollars here in both the construction (very sturdy) and design (simple controls are a boon for those with poor eyesight/dexterity/etc..) that can make this worth the premium price. If you are looking for a radio that doubles as a room piece, you wouldn't go wrong with this as long as you're willing to pay for that privilege.

There is not nothing that I dislike about this radio. In other words, it's everything that I hoped it would be. I bought it because of it's low footprint. It sits on my side table by my recliner. I bought it because I was very impressed by the techie specifications of its audio chain that were included on its Amazon page. The Sangean people are successfully channeling the Bose people. It has wonderful fidelity that holds up even if you set its volume to a relatively low level. Caveat (warning): It's internal FM antenna is rather pathetic. Unless you live near the stations you want to listen to or if they are very powerful, you're likely to be rather dissatisfied with this radio's ability to pull in stations, but there's a really easy fix for that. This radio DESERVES an external antenna and fortunately, there is a jack on the back of the radio where you can plug in an external antenna and a switch that will allow you to direct the external antenna to it. An oldie, but goodie set of rabbit ears from our analogue TV days came to my rescue. The FM section really came alive after I plugged them in. If you type "rabbit ears for an FM radio" into Amazon's search engine, you'll be served up with several options. #1 A whip antenna. These can be useful, provided that you're willing to play with the whip, but they have their limits. #2 A dipole antenna. Dipoles are finicky and directional. They need to have their broadside at right angles to the station you're trying to listen to. If you've got one and only one station that you really want to listen to, it could be your best bet. #3 Rabbit ears. Interestingly enough, a set of rabbit ears identical to mine came up in the search. They are like dipoles in the sense that they have two arms, but they are far more versatile. Their arms may be set to any angle between them that works for you and rotated. My rabbit ears have a little built in antenna tuner in their base which really helps me optimise reception. Go with the rabbit ears. With the rabbit ears, I'm pulling in one of my favourite stations, a little 3,000 station located at least 60 miles from me full quieting. That station happens to be on top of a 5000 foot mountain, but, even so, that's still quite a haul. BTW: Its AM section is a bit above average for an AM radio and the Sangean people have even included terminals on its back to hook up an external AM antenna (long wire) and ground. I may try that out one day soon.

The Sangean WR-15 is a beautiful looking and great sounding radio. I couldn't believe such a big sound could come out of such a small radio. The sound of this radio has got to be heard to be believed. If you find the bass to be too boomy, especially on AM, just stuff a sock in the port on the back of the radio. The sensitivity/selectivity of this radio is just amazing. If you're looking for a quality table radio that sounds absolutely amazing, has a beautiful retro look and is inexpensive, then this radio is it. I guarantee you won't regret purchasing this radio!

Para no estar completamente desactualizado, el fabricante añade la posibilidad de conectar un auxiliar (bonita opción para usar un adaptador Bluetooth). Complementan el paquete interesantes alternativas para antena AM o FM, de modo que la recepción sea lo más fiel posible. He tenido otro de marca reconocida -que deja mucho qué desear- y me quedo con este.

First of all the bad reviews that say AM reception or reception in general is not good and you couldn't get the station you wanted is not fair because people don't understand you can't have ANY radio in one place in one position if you want to get weaker stations better. ALL antennas are directional and to get stations for AM the radio has to change position as the antenna is inside, and for FM the wire has to change position. If you say you can't get a certain station turn the radio in a different direction! Move the FM antenna! Some bad reviews are not valid. This model is just like the home table radios of old, great sounding and reception and with a DSP tuner much better selectivity. Location is key for best sound. Corners and book shelves are better than in the open or a flat wall for a nice warm sound. And if you are far from lots of stations you have provision for external antennas on AM and FM and don't forget they are directional. Update to this review Mar. 4/20 To eliminate the noise interference on AM that sometimes depending on location, makes it near impossible to get weaker stations. This can be done on the back of the radio or for the more technically inclined from inside the cabinet. On the back locate the two AM antenna screws(GND and ANT) and loosen the screws a bit so they are sticking out a bit. With a jumper wire with alligator clips connect the wire from the GND screw to the GND(threaded) outside of the FM external antenna terminal. A larger alligator clip will go over it and hold. Now there will be a significant noise reduction. Next, take another jumper about 15 to 20 inches long and connect it to the AM ANT screw and just stretch it out straight. That's all and the noise will be reduced more and AM sensitivity will come way up. The wire FM antenna still can go over the FM F connector. The AM GND to FM ant. jack(GND side) can be done permanently from inside the cabinet. This will dramatically increase AM sensitivity by lessening noise 80% As for any inaccuracy of the dial pointer here's a fix. Pull off the tuning knob and you will see 2 screws holding the pointer. Remove one of them. Loosen the other and reposition the pointer. Tighten the one screw and leave the other out. This will fine tune the pointer for accuracy. Good luck!

Lo compré para mi Madre que no es fan de la tecnologia y requeria un radio basico, nos gusto mucho la calidad y el audio, es bueno y tiene volumen considerable para su pequeño tamaño, cabe en casi todas partes. muy lindo y materiales de buena calidad. lo recomiendo

It seemed very good at the start. It stopped working after a week. The product was immediately replaced with a new one at no cost. So, the radio, when it worked was very nice for the money, but it did stop working. The customer service was very good with the replacement. Ask me if the radio lasts... I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Hofully it was just bad luck. Stay tuned......
