Hang large 70" TV on metal stud wall
This review is specifically for people trying to hang a large flat screen (like my Sharp LC-70LE735U 70-inch Internet Ready LED TV on metal stud walls. I just moved into a condo so I'm dealing with metal stud walls for the first time. A quick search tells you that metal studs lack the strength, rigidity and solid attachment points that wood stud walls offer. Some descriptions tell horror stories of TVs collapsing to the floor and advise consumers to do nothing less than rip out the entire wall, replacing it with wood studs! As this is a one year rental, that was out of the question. The truth is that this terrific mount *can* work with metal stud walls. I'm also posting photos of the process.First, this mount is super solid and strong. Regular delivery got it to me in a lightning fast 4 days! It includes a wide variety of well-labeled, high-quality hardware for wood stud mounting. I only had to buy one item to make it work for metal studs.CAUTION - Clearly metal stud walls are MUCH weaker than wood stud walls. After reading all the scary stories I was sweating bullets when my wife and I hung the monster TV (which weighs more than her). I will NOT be using this mount with the full swing out because that idea still scares me...but tilt and left/right pivot works with no problems. If you have kids or guests who might pull your giant TV out all the way I do NOT recommend this mount for metal stud walls. You're better off with a cheaper, simpler tilt mount like VideoSecu Tilt TV Wall Mount for Most 37"- 70" LCD LED Plasma TV Flat Screen with VESA 200x200 to 700x400mm, Sturdy Steel Wall Plate Free HDMI Cable and Bubble Level 3KR.The thing that made this work was a box of Toggler 50425 Toggle Anchor, Steel, Meets FF-B-588-D Type V Specifications, 1/4"-20 Threads, Pack Of 10. I used a stud finder to locate the metal studs (just thin, steel channels shaped like a "]") but I still needed to drill 1/16" holes to locate the edges. Then I drilled 1/2" holes to anchor the plate with 6 Togglers (2 on each side into metal studs and 2 in the center for extra strength).NOTE: Each Toggler's "tensile strength is 265 lbs. in 1/2" drywall" but that is *vertical* shear strength. Don't confuse this with the force the TV plate exerts trying to yank the screws *out* of the wall. Again, I will NOT be extending my 70" TV out to the full articulation. Maybe it would work. I don't want to find out.The real point is that this big TV holds fine to a metal stud walls with no cracks or unusual flexing. The mount and the Togglers are great items at a great price.

Holding strong with 98lb, 65 inch Panasonic plasma.
I bought this to hang my Panasonic TC-P65GT30. It's about 98 lbs without its stand, and I was concerned about the stand's ability to support it, even though it's rated to well over twice that weight. I was very careful to find the very center of both studs. I recommend driving a small nail several times to find the edges of the stud and then drill right in the center of those edges... I wouldn't trust even a very good stud finder to locate the centers. You definitely don't want to accidentally drill into the edges of the studs and then have them split or have the lag screws pull out. I also bought my own mounting hardware as suggested in other reviews (Four 3.5 inch, 5/16 steel lag screws and matching washers cost my all of about $1.25 at the hardware store), so I can't comment on the quality of the included hardware, though it looked pretty good. The installation took me under an hour, and I've never done anything like that before, so it's not too hard for an amateur DIYer. Like some other reviewers, I hung my entire weight on the fully extended mounting plate to satisfy myself that it was anchored securely, and it held my ~200 lb frame with no apparent stress. That was all I needed, so I threw the TV up there. The tilt knobs hold the TV plenty securely for it to maintain the angle I set, an the TV pulls out, swivels, and pushes back in with no excessive effort. I didn't have to use any lithium grease or make any modifications at all. And some people have complained about the TV not being level, even though the stand is mounted flush and level to the wall. This is NOT a problem with this mount. All you have to do is grab the edges of the TV and apply a moderate amount of torque in the needed direction... the mounting plate is connected in such a way that it can be leveled by hand and holds its angle without a problem. It's been up for about a week now, and I'm not the least bit concerned about it staying put until I decide to take it down. Because of the type of mount this is (fully articulating), the TV will not sit perfectly flush against the wall. It sits about 4 or 5 inches out from the wall when pushes all the way back. This was expected, and is not a problem in my installation. It's very easy to pull out in order to get to the connections, get the TVs serial number, or adjust the viewing angle.I was really uncertain about buying a mount for such an inexpensive price and have it hold this TV securely, but I have absolutely no concerns about it. If there are any concerns that come up down the road, I will amend this review, but I truly do not expect to have to do that. I have no complaints at all, and I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I would recommend it or buy it again in a heartbeat.Pros: Sturdy, Easy to mount, Good instructions, No extra parts needed, Easy to adjust, InexpensiveCons: Heavy (truly did require two people to mount), Maybe the lag screws included for mounting are crummy (don't know... didn't try them, though they looked sufficient - but seriously, replacement bolts and washers that I KNEW were high quality cost me well under $2.00)
