What is the construction of the device? Is this all plastic?

Yes, it is hard plastic and it made from PP. Please note that all our produce complies with major safety approvals regarding food contact materials. They are 100% BPA free for food contact materials.

Do you have to use boiling water or will just hot water work?

You have to use boiling water to get a very hot shot and you should run one cycle with boiling water- to make the WACACO " warm up". Then you run boiling water with the grinds to get a hot shot of expresso. Normal hot water won't work because it won't keep it hot. It will literally will take about 2 mins to run "2" runs of boiling water; then run the coffee. It will make a difference. It tells you in the description and in the video.
