Scholarly Tome
This vast work is scholarly & very useful. I have looked up some things that are not on the online version I used. I will continue to use it on historical and other topics. Worth more than the price. ONLY ONE PROBLEM: you can't look up anything past the first two decades of the twentieth century. REASON: It was compiled I think in the last part of the second decade of Century 20. No problem.

The advantage of electronic media
Once of the beautiful things about electronic books is your ability to store information in what otherwise take up a library. This is the perfect example of it. You would fill a wall with the volumes in this collection, but you can have it at your fingertips and read it anytime on your Kindle enabled device. The breadth of the collection is amazing. John Henry Cardinal Newman once said, "To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant." It was for me, when challenged to truly be honest about the truth of the history of Christianity, by doing my own research, I eventually converted. Anyone willing to accept the "Newman challenge," will find this a good place to start their own research.

Works Poorly on low memory tablets, but Excellent on my Laptop.
The size of this book is massive—over 60 mb I think—and it ran poorly on my old Galaxy 2 tablet. However, using it on Kindle for Mac (which has a lot more storage and processing power), it becomes a very useful tool. Since that's where I do all my writing and research, the $2.99 price makes this an excellent bargain

Excellent Quality, Easy and Fast Navigation.
The "standard" 1907 - 1914 Catholic Encyclopedia -- on my Kindle ... for $2.99. Amazing. Catholic Way Publishing has become my first search destination when I look for new books at Amazon. They have consistent quality, a good and growing catalog of classic Catholic books (including multiple books collected in single editions) and very reasonable prices. I've already spent hours reading their books on my Kindle. With the Catholic Encyclopedia, the "Table of Contents" amounts to the letters of the alphabet. You click on the "B" (for example) and you'll find the first page of all articles starting with "B" -- just continue paging through the list to get to your specific article, then move to it and click. It's actually a pretty efficient process and only takes a few moments. There's also an Index, but, so far, it seems to be the same article list, but without a way of entering by a specific letter. The TOC system (alphabet) works -- and on my Kindle 3 there is no lag time. Considering how big the book is, that's pretty impressive. So, to sum it up, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Useful, but backward looking, theologically.
A useful snapshot of Catholic doctrine circa 1900 (and present day conservative Catholicism). Not easy to navigate, and a great deal of interesting trivia about various obscure places and saints, but some solid, learned articles, too.

Fantastic Bargain! Essential for Catholics who want to know their faith.
About ten years ago I had the printed version of this Catholic Encyclopedia. It was huge and I was doing a lot of moving, for work, so and I ended up selling it. I've missed it since then. When my brother told me about this I bought it immediately. A couple hours later, my daughter bought it.Unlike many "cheap" reprints, this one is really well done, very crisp and clean. It's an incredible bargain at $2.99. Honestly, I would have paid more. I'm really glad this resource is available to anybody who wants it now. I know people were always searching and paying hundreds of dollars for the printed version.

"Must Have" resource
Good resource to haveI have long used an online version of this reference, the problem being that I am not always in a position of being able toconnect to that online site when I really want to do so. living away frompopulation centers does have some disadvantages,When I saw this was available, I immediately went for it. I can now researchwhat I want wherever and whenever I want without having to be online to do so.as noted in the description, this is a huge book, and doing searches may require a good bit of time,on the other hand, jumping to a specific letter section, and doing a manual search seems to gofairly quickly for me.If you are a history buff, or interested in the Catholic Church, this is a "must have" resource

... their filled with a timeline chapter of topics just like any other history book
Average History books have come to pride themselves on calling themselves Encyclopedias when their filled with a timeline chapter of topics just like any other history book. IN FACT that is what I thought this book was only to be pleasantly supplied its contents are labeled by the letter, not chapters. Also full of pages as an encyclopedia should be. Not afraid to include accounts of corruption of the Church as well as the proud aspects of its history. VERY UNBIAS. You show me a Cathic History book that says it's.not unbiased and truth itself must have been the author. I'm sure most of you already know, your shopping in that very section if your reading this review.
