Scepter Compost Bin, 11 cu. ft.

Easy to put together but the lid was twisted in the shipping package and lids do not sit flat and tight. Time and temp may help. Heavy duty plastic. This is my second compost bin...left the first one at my previous property when it was sold. Large, takes a lot of material and a long time for black compost. Worth the price!

I am more of a "passive" compost maker, so if you want compost quickly, you are better off buying something smaller that "twirls". I dislike throwing organic matter in the trash, and this is the perfect solution for disposing of vegetable waste and just waiting for it to decompose. This bin is well made, super easy to assemble, and holds lots of material. I bought one several years ago, and as it is full, I bought a second one in order to let the material in the first one decompose completely before using it. That being said, it is easy to open the sliding door at the bottom in order to use the finished compost that has accumulated there when the stuff on the top has not cooked completely.

Assembled fairly easily and in under 20 minutes. My largest complaint is that the door on the top lid cannot be operated 1-handed. This is annoying when I am holding a bowl of eg. vegetable scraps in 1 hand and want to pop open the lid with my other. I find it strange that the door would be fixed in place so strongly, but the lid itself is not locked down in any way. Other are for improvement is that the posts that are intended to fix the compost bin to the ground don't do a great job. Hopefully this won't be an issue in heavy winds. Generally though, very pleased with the purchase.

assembly was easy, but after assembly, it did not look very sturdy, the pieces did not look even. The door does not open or close with ease..worth lot less than paid for...

This composter is very easy to assemble, but it's not very durable. The lid snapped off mine within the first month of use. Plus, the lid does not stay open on it's own. This makes filling it difficult.

Very good quality for the money, good design. You add kitchen scraps to the top, cover with dirt or grass clippings and someday you have composted dirt in the bottom. My system is to keep the small version in one of the two slots in the recycle cupboard in the kitchen and empty it into this one out in the yard two stories down every month or so. It does take a long time to actually get compostable material but that is the nature of composting. I bungeed it to a post to keep racoons and skunks from knocking it over and after over a year, so far so good. The basic box is strong enough to thwart both Rocky and Pepe.

I LOVE that this is made from recycled materials - and it's a big enough size to meet my composting needs. However, if they were to read my review and revamp the design; I would say there only needs to be one door on the top to access. Now there are two doors of the same size, and they're a bit too small. I would also want the door to stay up while I'm emptying my bucket - the design doesn't let you prop open the lid.
