Fixing a mistake
I purchased a leather messenger bag on Ebay. While I usually have great luck and great sellers, this one really exaggerated the "barely used" aspect of the bag. It was deeply stained and looked horrible. I almost cried and then I almost threw it away. I did some research and found a purse forum recommendng this product. I sucked it up and thought I would try it. I would at least learn something new. The bag was a deep reddish-brown. I chose a cognac color, which turned out to be lighter. I received the product fairly quickly. I tend to be impatient (the type that stains a wood piece 32 times in one afternoon) so I forced myself to follow directions and go slowly. I followed directions to the letter and the end product is amazing!!!! I used the preparer to prepare the bag. It will ask you to use a used scotchbrite type pad--here I deviated, I used a new one. This step was amazing and quick. Took it down to the beautiful bare leather. Then the staining. Stir well, then pour into a little cup or plate. Go slow and follow the directions. It's a snap!! If the stain gets on your hands or metal pieces it will come off really easy, so don't fret. A little water or scrubbing will do the trick. Tips I learned from the purse site: if you are doing a bigger item, use the foam brushes you buy at a hardware department. Let the item you are staining set a couple of days before use. Also, finish up with some gentle leather conditioner a couple of days after you're done. It took me a weekend. I can't paste pictures, but if you want to see some things people have done, google Tarrago Dye and visit the purse forums. Amazing transformations. The outcome is not as shiny as the pictures look, either. For those who say it peels off: I think they might have done too many coats at once and didn't let it dry. No color transfer or peeling. It's not a paint, it is a dye. A high quality dye. I have bought black and red to fix a couple of other bags I want to keep longer. FYI: there is also a Youtube video which demonstrates the product as well. Update: it is now summer 2013 and the bags still look great! Also, I again got a misrepresented product from eBay--this time a pair of "brand new" " white" Keds shoes. They may have been white at some point, but they arrived at my door an ugly yellow-white. I used leftover red dye and they look fantastic now!! Still love this product!

Terrific product but application tools are important.
Absolutely fantastic product. Colored my dull bag perfectly. Important to thoroughly clean and use prep. I had alligator textured leather, so did multiple coats over several days. Advise buying small angled sponge at hardware store to apply color. Small sponge provided has little area coverage. Can clean overpricing after done with Q tip and the provides leather clear prep.

"New" Boots for less than $10
I dyed some ankle-length, man-made leather gray boots with this product last night and they are now a lovely bordeaux color and very close to the morello cherry shade on the bottle. The boots were fairly dark and had some wear and scuffing and so they came out with a very cool variegated finish giving them a distressed leather look. The dye even colored the zipper and an elastic accent, so overall I was very pleased. The package includes a cleaning product to pretreat your footwear with and cleaning and dyeing instructions for various types of leather and cloth. I got good coverage, but unfortunately spilled the bottle, so I will have to re-order if I want to do touchups. My only complaint, which is minimal, is that the little application sponge begin to come apart by the end of the second coat, so a back-up sponge would have been nice. That said, I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to breath life into your old footwear or give yourself a "new" pair of shoes or boots for less than $10.

More of a "varnish" versus a "stain"
I had purchased a small vintage Coach purse off Poshmark. While it had great patina, there were some dark water marks on the back and bottom of the purse that I didn't care for. After washing and conditioning the purse, the water marks didn't go away, so I decided I wanted to dye it. I selected Tarrago over Fiebing as the amount of product provided seemed to be enough for a first-time dye project. This brand also offered a wider variety of colors. I had difficult time deciding among the various browns, but selected Amber Brown. After it dried, my purse went from mahogany to a British tan. The product was easy to use. Based on Youtube reviews, I did not use the sponge or brush applicator that came with the product. Instead, I used a scrubber sponge that I cut into fourths to remove prep the leather, then used a foam brush for the dye itself, which made it easy to apply thin even coats. The dye is runny so I recommend using rubber gloves. I think I did about 3 or 4 coats in total. I used Fiebing's Resolene and Apple Garde Water Repellent spray to protect the purse. The first day I wore the purse, I noticed the buttery soft leather was rather tacky. Unfortunately, I was caught in a thunderstorm that day as well! It didn't seem to affect the purse, thankfully. Over the last month, the tackiness has worn off and the leather has returned to its supple feel. However, in this time the amber brown color has also faded (luckily, it had not cracked) revealing the original color of the purse. I'm not too disappointed by this, as it seems to retain the new color but giving a subtle bit of the original. However, for my next purse rehab, I went with Fiebing as it is a penetrating dye. I would still repurchase (I have a mint green purse that I want to makeover) but now I know the limitations of the product and will manage my expections accordingly.

Happy with My (No Longer Orange) Cushion!
This was perfect when I wanted to redye an orange leather cushion on the last remaining new Ekornes coffee table/ottoman after the style was discontinued! It took four units to cover, and some trial & error, but it turned out beautifully. Happy with the product and will order it again when I need to change or renew a leather color!

Does the shoe dye work? Yes... but it depends on the color.
My success with the Tarrago Shoe/Leather Color Dye was mixed. Having said that, I think there are some good lessons learned, because I cannot say it didn't work either. I purchased 2 colors, a Steel Grey and a Medium Brown. My intent was to dye a pair of taupe colored shoes with the Steel Grey and a pail of light gold metallic shoes with the Medium Brown. 1. Taupe-to-Steel Grey: Results were meh. Streaks showed, and parts of the shoe did not take the color well. 2. Gold-to-Medium Brown: This gave a nice result, to a medium brown color with gold flecks in it. The dye even colored the canvas trim nicely. Tips: I think it is all about color choice. Going light material to darker dye works best, AND keep within the same color family. My issue with the Steel Grey was that the dye was a bit lighter than the ugly taupe color I started with. It did change the tone to be cooler grey, but showed streaks and misses. I should have went with more of a charcoal grey or near-black here. The gold to brown was a hit, and I can get another season or two from some nice leather shoes that were looking worn.

This stuff is awesome! used it to dye some summer clogs which I had purchased in natural leather. I decided that I needed a little color. So glad I bought this. Used the AIR FORCE BLUE Color, it's like a deep cerulean. SO NICE. I googled some steps for dying shoes/clogs. Taped off ALL the parts I didn't want any dye on. This was a multi-day process but I achieved professional results. You can't tell my clogs were home dyed at all. Day 1- scrubbed shoes with soap and water. Let them dry over night. Day 2 - used the "PREPARER " liquid that comes in the package. this is also a bit of a soapy liquid. Followed the instructions in the package for using that, and let dry over night. Day 3 - Taped off ALL the wood part of my clogs and all the parts I didn't want to get any dye on them. Used blue painters tape. Gave the shoes one coat of dye following the instructions in the box. Let that dry overnight. Day 4 - here I was nervous as the dye looked sort of streaky on the shoes. Gave it a second coat and WOW! Let that fry overnight. Not immediate gratification, but well worth the extra effort. Really professional looking.

Not dye, paint
False advertising. This is not leather dye. It is leather paint. I wanted leather dye, dye is in the name, I feel like I was bamboozled. I had to scrub it off the brand new white boots I wanted to DYE pink for my daughter because it started peeling after the 2nd coat of color and it was splotchy from the beginning of the process. I followed the directions to a T, I scrubbed the boots with the preparer solution and a rag. I didn't see any visible chsnges to the boots, but ok. The pigmented part of the product was thin even after 10 minutes of stirring and making sure I got all the pignment off the bottom of the jar, it foamed during application with the brush and sponge provided causing uneven coverage, and then the peeling happened and it was game over. Overall I'm very disappointed that the product was not as advertised and nearly ruined my daughter's brand new boots. Come morning I will have to explain to a very very disappointed 6 yr old why her boots aren't pink after a week of waiting for the "dye" and why they're absolutely soaked through. I will be purchasing a different product (Angelus leather dye) that is actually dye.

Vendeur impeccable!

Amazing product - my shoes were reborn
The reason why I bought this product was that I had a pair of really comfortable heels which were badly injured on a day when I was in a rush to catch my train. I couldn't simply bin them... Giving them a chance for a new life I ordered this product and honestly it did an amazing job. My beige courts turned into vivid blue color and the dye covered the injured patches really smoothly. The new color and surface is amazing with a lovely smooth shine as an addition to the cheerful color. I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. The only advice I would add is that you need to be patient with the dying - each layer has to get dry (min. 6 hours) and I had to apply 3 layers to get the perfect cover. Furthermore, use the sponge for every parts (even for the heels and sides) as it gets wrinkled if too much dye is applied. Don't worry if the color looks a bit odd after the first layer is added, just carry on...

creating evening shoes
I haven't used this particular item yet, but basing my remarks on other colours that I purchased a couple of years ago I am expecting really good results. I have trouble finding evening shoes that are comfortable so I will be using my metallic gold shoe dye on summer sandals that I know are comfortable. Problem solved!
