Are the batteries replaceable? I have an earlier 7.2 volt version and the batteries can't be replaced

No there is no battery as you might think of it. Therefore, there isn’t a replacement that you can purchase. Inside the Trimmer housing the are 4 individual electrical coils that Hold a charge and operate in series to power the unit. When they will no longer hold a charge you should discard the Trimmer or you can spend almost as much to rebuild it. I would not recommend a rebuild.
