Groundbreaking American pilot Amelia Earhart is the 2nd hero in the New York Times bestselling picture book biography series for ages 5 to 8. Amelia Earhart refused to accept no for an answer; she dared to do what no one had ever done before, and became the first woman to fly a plane all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. This biography follows her from childhood to her first flying lessons and onward to her multi-record-breaking career as a pilot. This friendly, fun biography series inspired the PBS Kids TV show Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum. One great role model at a time, these books encourage kids to dream big. Included in each book are: • A timeline of key events in the hero’s history • Photos that bring the story more fully to life • Comic-book-style illustrations that are irresistibly adorable • Childhood moments that influenced the hero • Facts that make great conversation-starters • A character trait that made the person heroic and that readers can aspire to You’ll want to collect each book in this dynamic, informative series! Review: Good read - Good series for introducing kids to people who they should be able to recognize later in life Review: Another great book from a great series - My niece is named Amelia, after of course Amelia Earheart. So this book was a must. Again, this series is great - from the storyline (easy to understand but not watered down for children) and the illustrations (adorable and engaging). Although the end Amelia Earhart's real life story was tragic, you don't get that with this book. She's still an inspiration to be courageous, try new things, and explore the unknown. Anyone can appreciate that! Now, if only they had one for Eleanor Roosevelt!!

Great for young girls!
This is such a fun book with excellent art work. Written in more of a comic book style to appeal to kids. Features a bit of information leading up to her becoming the first woman pilot to fly across the Atlantic. Discusses her childhood of dreaming of flying and ending with her successfully flying, making her dreams come true. Shows that if you want something and try hard enough, you can achieve anything, even if no one else has ever done it. I also love that it empowers young girls to dream big and change the world.

Buy this book!
I bought this for my 5 year old granddaughter, since we're an Air Force family and love planes. I was delighted to find out that it is so much more than just planes. Now my granddaughter is 6, and she still chooses this and Abraham Lincoln by Brad Meltzer for me to read to her, and for her to practice her reading. We both love the inspiring and encouraging messages of the book. The story of Amelia is told in a way that helps my granddaughter see that Amelia was just an ordinary girl, just like her. In fact, since we started reading these books, her career aspirations have been expanding, to my delight. ("Rock star", while a nice career, was never my dream for her. Now she's considering "scientist", "doctor", "veterinarian"!) Brad Meltzer's book expand the awareness of the reader, teaching them, as Brad says, that Ordinary People Change the World.

Inspiring book for all ages.
I bought this book and one other by the same author (I am Abraham Lincoln) for my just turned 6-year old granddaughter. Immediately she wanted me to read it to her. As I started reading, the other children in the room came over to listen. My granddaughter particularly like the part where Amelia built the slide, greased it with lard, and slid down the slide in a wooden box, to which she had attached the wheels from some roller skates. My granddaughter's comment was, "I'm going to do that!" With a smile on my face, I looked over to my daughter, her mother, and she just rolled her eyes. That's the great part of being a grandparent. Aside from all of that, I like the message of the book - that you can be what you want to be with hard work and dedication. Thank you, Mr. Meltzer.

My daughters and I LOVE this book
My daughters and I LOVE this book! We read it regularly. After the first time we read it my 4 year old looked up at me and said, "Mommy is it ok if I'm not a pink dress girl? What if I want to be a book-reading-airplane-flying girl?" It brought the biggest smile to my face and I instantly said, "Oh you can be both if you want!" Not only that but she brought this book to school with her and now her teacher is purchasing the whole series! It has the most adorable illustrations and I love the writing. Not that princesses are bad, but why would I read her a story of a make believe girl who accomplished nothing when I could read her a bad a** story of a real woman who achieved her dreams?

Great book
I bought this book for my 3-year-old and found it just right for her. She has never heard of Amelia Earhart but found the story interesting. The illustrations and simplicity of the text were appropriate for a young child and we enjoyed the book.

I couldn't recommend this book enough.
This book was so cute, it made me cry the first time I read it. My 3 year old's name is Amelia so I wanted to get her a book with her name in it. I wasn't expecting to get such an inspiring message from the book. It's perfectly tailored to a young child's understanding without dumbing it down. I hope, one day, she is able to grasp the message of the book and follow her dreams just like Amelia Earhart did. Bonus points for being inspiring and giving a brief history lesson.

Bought this book for my daughters. I haven't shown to them yet, but after reading it myself, I am sure they would too!
As a cadet pilot, I want to influence or tell my daughters why I want to become a pilot so bad. This is one of the books that I bought so to explain to the kids my passion about flying, in an interesting way that they would love :)

Lovely, highly recommended
Brilliant book for both children and parents. Our 8-year old daughter may be on the top end of the primary target audience but she loves reading, collects books in general and is intrigued by female role models - she is quite well served by the past few year’s trend to cover this topic extensively. So she already has knowledge about Amelia from her other books on female heroines. But none of these books is as attractively presented as this one. The hard bound book is beautifully and colourfully illustrated. And the storyline is to the point; don’t accept no if you have a passion. I found it somewhat on the expensive side but I couldn’t resist buying it. And its simply well worth the investment. We might buy a few more in this range of books that mostly addresses American ‘heroes’. Would be great to have series focussed on more international characters.
