Not a Gimmick. Actually works!
I experimented with a bottle of Weller SR, and a bottle of Spirits of the Apocalypse (which I bought for $10 in Tampa). My chief reason for this experiment was to find if this was a gimmick product. The instructions on the spirals are to plop it into a bottle and wait, with the goal of aging the bottle further. After 2 weeks the spirals flavor will be fully extracted. For these two bottles, 1 week was plenty. For the Weller SR, the results were interesting. The nose became something near identical to Weller 107. I was instantly impressed with how much a week improved the nose. On the taste, 1 week of aging nearly over-oaked the bottle. I say nearly, because it's still drinkable. Actually, it's enjoyable if you like oak flavor. Again, the OWA comparison is striking. I believe I've improved the overall taste of this bottle. On the Spirits of the Apocalypse... Wow. Simply wow. I've turned what cost me $10 into something that competes with $80 bottles. The complexity that the spiral added to this juice floored everyone who's tasted it. Sweet vanilla, caramel, oak. The bottle is aged for at least 4 years but after spiraling it this tastes at least 4 years older yet. I will be buying more of this bottle, and aging it again. The value vs taste is incredible, and if you are reading this I highly implore you to spend the $20-$25 to do this yourself.Overall impressions of this product: for $10 you can really improve a cheaper bottle of bourbon. This is not a gimmick product. But beware, you need to sample your juice at least every 3 days to make sure you don't over-oak your bottle.

These really work!
I dropped one of these into a bottle of Benchmark Full Proof bourbon just to see what would happen. I like Benchmark FP but, as a bottom shelf bourbon, it does taste somewhat young and grainy. After two weeks, wow! What a difference. The color was much darker and the flavors much deeper and more complex; that young, grainy quality was gone. A sub-$30 bourbon now drinks like a $60+ bourbon.

Fine if you are messing around. If you are distilling and want to oak something, you can do better.
This is a great place to start if you have no idea what you are doing. Get a bottle of medium-good vodka and toss this in. After 2 weeks, you will see what oaking is kind of like. The flavors are very mellow and simple. With a little research and effort, you can add much more complex flavor by toasting and charing your own oak. Start with this spiral but do not end here.

fantastic for a speedy age
I made some home made rum a while back and thought it would be fun to age it. followed the simple instructions on the back and it made all the difference to the flavor. nice oaky notes with a sweet scent. for those of us without massive warehouses to age things in, this is a perfect middle ground that respects tradition and gives a great end result without sacrificing quality.

This actually works.
I was hesitant but thought I’d give it a shot. So I bought the cheapest whiskey I could find and throw these in to see what happens. Directions say to let it set for 2 weeks and I did 3 (cuz I forgot about it lol). I was blown away by how smooth and how much more flavor was added. Blind taste test with Jack Daniels and 5/6 buddies said the cheap stuff tasted better. I am going to try it again with other flavors.

Does as expected.
These do exactly what I purchased them for...they add a hint of oak to my Bourbon. I only add these for 1 week. Some do 1 month. Test sample as you go.

Easy way to save money on expensive whiskey
I've only done this on a bottle of Evan Williams so far, but it's worked fantastically. I poured 750ml of a bottle of Evan Williams in a mason jar, and put the spiral in the jar and let it sit for a month (I was on an extended vacation). After I returned, I poured a small glass of Evan Williams, Evan Williams small batch, and a glass of the infused Evan Williams from the mason jar. The straight up Evan Williams was disgusting. The small batch was slightly less disgusting. The infused Evan Williams was honestly one of the best bourbon's I've ever tasted. I've yet to try anything over the $60 mark that isn't scotch, but for $5 per bottle (not to mention they can be re-used), it's 100% worth it. The spiral eliminated 90% of the alcohol burn of regular Evan Williams that made me want to gag, and added so much flavor and complexity to the whiskey. 9.5/10, would recommend.
