Good solid lock. Built to last

So far this lock has not frozen up in the freezing rain and snow storms. It is on an outside shed exposed to the elements. I like this lock a lot more the the previous one I bought last year. The previous one had movable gaskets on the shank and they would come off when I removed the shank from the hasp on the shed. I almost lost one of the gaskets. With this lock the gaskets are a molded part of the lock body - much better. I gave the other lock to a friend of my to use on a hasp he hardly ever opens. I would recommend this lock for harsh outside elements such as freezing rain, sleet and snow. PS - I really like the large solid key unlike most locks

I only gave this masterlock 4 stars because I just received two of them today. I just wanted to post my thoughts about the quality of construction. I'll update this post after our upcoming snowstorm. Each lock comes with 2 brass keys. The key mechanism is smooth with the keys sliding into each lock with precision. The rubber flap that slides over the key entry is snug and snaps into place preventing water, dust or debris from entering the keyhole. This will prevent the locking mechanism from freezing, which was important to me. With dual ball locking (a steel ball on each outside edge of the shackle when locked), prying the shackle open is much more difficult because the balls rotate in place. There is no way to displace them. The shackle is a 5/16" hardened boron alloy which adds a level of hardness making cutting through it more difficult, than if it was stainless or just hardened steel. This was really important to me because I'm using the locks to secure a container on my property and I can't see it from my house. Lastly, I like the yellow plastic exterior. It tells people from a distance that the container is locked. That, in and of itself, will deter some people who have larceny in mind. It also protects the interior from water and debris intrusion. Overall, for the cost, I'm impressed with the build quality, weather resistant and theft resistant features of this Heavy Duty Master Lock. I could have spent a lot more on other locks, but no one promises 100% waterproof, pic-proof and hammer-proof. For me, I believe this Master Lock will get the job done.

Bought this lock last spring to lock my garden tool shed; recently unlocked the shed for the first time after a long New England winter and the lock operated as smooth as when I first bought it, other then the yellow color fading the lock looks and functions as if it were brand new. No sign of rust, nothing is sticking, I'm very satisfied and impressed with it. 2-27-11, Update - Lock is still as easy to unlock as when first bought. 12-20-22 Update - Just looked at the current reviews for this lock and see many negative reviews and all dated in the past couple of years. It's too bad that they might have made a manufacturing change to the original lock. The original one I wrote this review for is still on my shed and working like the first time I used it.

You can’t go wrong with a master lock. Perfect for outside and has the piece of plastic at the bottom that pops into where the keyhole is to keep moisture out.

Just received the padlock today, this lock come from Amazon US, far as I know it not stocked by many UK hardware stores. The lock is a laminated typed with a boron alloy shackle and covered in a yellow and black plastic. I believe it has 5 pins, which 4 are spools and 1 serrated, and comes with the 2 keys as standard. As you may notice in the photos, this was purchase for the purpose of lockpicking and not for securing anything, which I am happy to give 5 stars.

Good sturdy lock. Kept my Kayak locked on top of the truck all summer without any problems. Still works as good as new.
