Grabber Buddy Innovative Reacher Tool with, White, Blue, Aluminum, 48 Inch

I bought this product to augment another reaching tool I use to pick up tiny objects close to the floor. The other reaching tool has silicon suction cups at the end to make it easier to handle tiny objects, but it didn't handle heavier objects very well. So I picked up the Grabber Buddy and discovered what a reaching tool can be if you don't try to cut corners on materials, and decide to build the best reaching tool you can. Every other reaching tool I've tried has been made of the lightest materials and construction possible. While some of that may be by design to keep the overall weight down, my experience is that it's done simply to save on cost and construction (which technically is also cost). The Grabber Buddy has good, quality construction, and while it might not be as light as some other reaching tools, it's still way more than light enough to make it easy to use. It has the added benefit that the handle can be rotated, which comes in handy when carrying long objects. But don't take my comments to mean that the Grabber Buddy doesn't pick up tiny objects. It does, and it does it quite well. The tips of the Grabber Buddy 'fingers' are more rigid than suction cups, so they don't form around an object you're trying to pick up, like suction cups do. I've always seen that as an advantage of suction cup reaching tools. But to be honest, I haven't yet come across anything the suction cup tools will pick up that the Grabber Buddy won't. You won't go wrong with the Grabber Buddy.

So, before I bought this, I had been using another grabber that after a while was doing a real number on my hands. After a while I was fed up with the way it was hurting my hands. I knew I needed a new grabber that was easier on my hands, but I was struggling to justify buying another one even though I already had the one that was making my hands sore. I was assuming that they're all the same and that this new one wouldn't be any different. Finally I was done using the other one and ready try something better. The one I had been using had a handle shaped like a trigger and I surmised that perhaps the differently designed handle on the grabber buddy would put less stress on my fingers. Thankfully I was right about that. As soon as I got the Grabber Buddy the difference was literally night and day. No more sore hands. I can grab anything with ease; the magnets at the end are a neat bonus as well, I didn't really need magnets but don't mind having them as an addition. Overall I'm abundantly satisfied with this and only wish I would have bought it sooner. If you want to make your life easier you definitely need this, forget about all the other grabbers out there.

Works for in home or light work, mine broke using it to pickup up fallen tree limbs after storm. Probably my expectations were too high, but I have another brand that is all metal and I can even use it as a log turner in my burn pit so I wont buy any more of these except for my wife to use in house.

My first 48" Grabber Buddy purchased April 2020 finally broke June 2023. I'm surprised it lasted that long. I used it for many things it worked great with trash barrel on wheels that I have I push barrel down sidewalks & pull garbage out from way back in & under the bushes without ever leaving the safety/ comfort of the sidewalk. I can pull 10- 20lbs trash bags of garbage out from behind our 3-yard dumpsters that get stuck back there from people throwing bags over fence & missing dumpsters. Even had a hero moment when a neighbor lady accidently dropped her car keys into the dumpster, I got them out no problem with zero dumpster diving... The shaft is very strong I'm sure I've lifted 20lbs bags with it. First one broke where plastic handle meets metal shaft. It is very long I'm around 5' 11' tall, 6' arm span & little shy of 8' vertical reach I just figured out ways to use it no problem. I'm large & old & very much appreciate an alternative to crawling around, squeezing between things & dumpster diving. It's worth the $20 bucks to me.

I bought this for picking stuff up from a fishing dock, no not fish, trash and dropped gear. It arrived with a slight bend in the middle of the shaft of about 4-5 degrees. That didn’t affect the operation so I kept it. It’s been an asset and has kept me dry literally hundreds of times. It’s not good for walking around picking up trash because I bought the longest one.

If you read any negative reviews here about the Grabber Buddy, Ignore them, trust me, these people are full of B.S and nothing will please them even if they got mouth fed by somebody else. They would complain about that too. This Grabber Buddy easily picked up pills off the floor with no effort. I even picked one up that was so small you can hardly see it for my diabetes. It worked like a breeze. I can't bend over or I fall on the floor and not able to get back up and my son suggested buying this after he spent many hours reading reviews on it all over the internet and here also. I have to take medications and I drop them often and have to ask my son to come pick them up for me or I'll fall and can't get up. I'm 78 going on 79 october 6th with many health problems. I asked my son to type this review because I'm no capable of doing so to this extent. I could care less if some of you think this is just to get you to buy it. I wanted to post this review for people that need the help like I do. This tool is the best. I bought other pickup type tools and they don't work that well. Worthless is my statement. This medication pill approximately the size of an apple seed I picked up off the floor that I dropped on purpose to test this unit did it with a with breeze. Not one issue or complain at all. I love it and that is all I have to say.

We got this grabber because we couldn't reach a fire detector in my how that would not stop beeping. Once I gave it to my husband, he was in love. He used it for everything from picking up trash to grabbing his soda from across the counter. For the price, it works great! However, my husband tended to lift much too heavy of things with it, like a bag of groceries. Then the spring snapped. He pouted for a month until I got him a new one. We bought the same one again, and he loves it! We now have a new rule to not pick up super heavy things, and it will last him a long time. We use it every day! I highly recommend. *Warning, if you are buying this as a gift, you can so tell what it is from the box*

Edit - Note - I've recently edited this review (as well as changed the rating) due to the grabber/reacher claw falling apart. Please see the end of this review for details. I've owned this grabber for probably close to a year by now I think and am just now getting around to writing a review for it. This is the best grabber I've had so far. I've had numerous models of grabbers/reachers over the years. Most have been to lightweight in their construction and have failed far to soon either because they bent or the string/cable that runs from the handle to the claw has failed or they've just fallen apart. Before this one, I had one that I purchased at a local big box home improvement store. It was very sturdy but the handle was of a different orientation than all the other grabbers I'd had in the past. Instead of the handle being being squeezed perpendicular to the shaft of the grabber the handle was grasped parallel with the shaft. Imagine just squeezing the shaft of the grabber, just further up toward the end and you'll get the idea. Anyway, while it was very sturdy, the handle orientation made it sort of odd and difficult to pick some things up. It was ok for picking up things that were on the floor but very awkward for things say, on a shelf in front of you. This grabber I have now you can (with some difficulty on mine anyway) orient the handle to be either parallel with the claw end (the way it opens and closes) or perpendicular to it, The idea is that you push a small button under the handle on the shaft and then rotate the handle 90 degrees and then the button pops back out in the position. Putting it back is a matter of reversing that same procedure. The only reason I've given the grabber four stars instead of five is the difficulty with pushing that button in and rotating the handle. It's VERY stiff and difficult to push the button in. In fact, for the first probably 6-8 months I just assumed the feature didn't work because I couldn't even push the button in. I have very large/strong hands and I was unable to push the button in all the way so I could rotate the handle. After owning the grabber for quite a while I found that if I push with both thumbs on the button at the same time WHILE also turning the shaft, I can get the button depressed far enough down so that the shaft will rotate with some effort. It's a bit of chore but it will work. I don't know if it is just mine that is this stiff or if all of them are like that. It's not been a huge deal as I just haven't bothered with rotating the handle. I just turn my hand/wrist if I need the grabber claw to be in a certain orientation. The grabber is very well made and at 48" long, one of the longest grabbers that I've been able to find which is one of the reasons I purchased it. I wanted the longest reach possible. I don't think this grabber is for everyone though. Given it's sturdy tubular construction and extra length, it does weigh a bit more than other grabbers. This may make it a bit to heavy for many people to use on a regular basis especially with one hand/arm. Having very strong arms and hands it's not been an issue for me but I can certainly see where it would be an issue for many people. There have been many times where picking something up and turning the grabber sideways so that I can grab the item being picked up with the other hand has been very taxing even with my strong hands. Also, the 48" length may make it difficult for the average person to be able to grab the item they picked up from the end of the grabber with their other hand. It requires quite a bit of hand/wrist strength to turn the grabber sideways and then a long enough reach (arm length) to be able to grab the item with the other hand. I'm willing to put up with this in order to have the longer reach (48") that this grabber provides. Others may not. As I said, the grabber if very well made. It's got a very sturdy, hard plastic handle that is held together with eight screws/bolts and nuts. The shaft is strong, tubular piece of aluminum I believe. The claw at the end has a large opening of approximately 4 inches with rubber tipped feet with ribbing on them to help get a firm grasp on whatever item you are picking up. The only maintenance or problems I see in the future might possibly be the loosening up of the nuts that hold the eight bolts/screws in place on the handle. I don't know if these will come loose in the future but they look like they might. So far they have not. I think simply checking them periodically would be a good idea to prevent any potential future problems. The other end (the claw end) of the grabber is all riveted together so I don't see any failure points on that end or anything that would potentially loosen up over time. The only other issue is that I have noticed is a small bit of wear on the rubber that coats the plastic tips on the the claw. The rubber is starting to wear away on the side edge of each claw tip. I assume that this is from rubbing against the carpet when I pick up an item off the floor. This is the primary usage for the grabbber for me (picking things up off of the floor) so I can see why it's wearing in that particular spot. I should note that because the wear on the rubber tip of the claw is happening on the SIDE of the tip, it's not effecting the performance of the grabber or it's ability to pick things up. It isn't wearing directly (at this point) on the surface that contacts the objects being picked up. Even with continued wear in that area, I don't see it really ever being an issue that would effect the ability of the grabber to grip things and pick them up since the wear will probably continue to be restricted to the side of the claw tips but not the gripping surface itself. In conclusion, I think this is a very well made grabber/reacher device. It's primary drawback is it's weight due to it's sturdy construction and it's length. it's primary asset is it's length at 48 inches which is considerably longer than most other grabber/reachers out there in my experience. I should mention the handle style is a bit different also than the conventional style of handle I've seen on many other grabbers I've seen. While it's still a squeezing motion to grip the handle and close the claw end, it's just designed a bit differently. While it looks a bit different, I think it provides for a very secure grip and for a very strong hold on whatever you're picking up. I must admit I was a bit hesitant to order it when I first saw the handle as it looked a bit strange. I wasn't sure how it was going to be to grip the handle the way it is made. However, after using it now for quite a while I can say it works well, It's just a bit different and takes a little getting used to but it works fine. If I have any problems with this device I will try to keep this review updated by editing it with any details that may be relevant in the future. I would say if you can handle the extra weight due to the sturdy construction and length and you need/want the extra length this device provides, than it is well worth the money and I would recommend it. If you don't absolutely need/want the extra length you might look at the shorter model. I believe they have a 36" model as well. It would, I'm sure, be a bit lighter if weight is a concern. I hope people find this information in this review helpful. Edit - 8/15/16 Today I went to pick up something off of the floor and well, I was going to say one of the claws "fell" off but upon closer inspection it looks like one of the claws "broke"off. I say that only because the claws are two pieces (one curved piece on each side) and one of the curved claw pieces "broke" right by the center rivet. I'm hesitant to say "broke" because I was actually picking up a piece of crumpled up tissue paper that was on the floor. There was certainly no force involved. In fact, I didn't know what happened at first. I squeezed the handles and lifted up he grabber to take the piece of tissue paper from the claws and when I looked, not only was the tissue paper not there, half the claw was gone and laying on the floor. It makes me wonder if there wasn't some sort of stress crack in the plastic that finally just let go or something. If It had broken trying to pick up something really heavy I would just chalk it up to error on my part but a "piece of tissue paper"? It actually doesn't get used for anything very big anyway because the grabber itself is already rather heavy at 48" long so trying to pick up something very heavy would likely be an exercise in futility anyway. I don't know what the warranty is on this particular product. It is not listed in the product information. I have contacted the company through Amazon and will see what they say. I have revised my review for the time being and will adjust it again as warranted after contacting the company. I thought for as heavy duty as this item was that it would last for many years. 8/16/16 I contacted the company through Amazon. Their response was that they do not have a long warranty on this product and as such they would not be able to replace it. I've adjusted my rating and edited the review accordingly. So, it was a good grabber/reach for the year that it lasted. Take that for what it's worth.

This is a very good buy. I have small hands and I find I have more grip strength with this handle design. It also at the press of a button can rotate for a different angle grip.

Great for picking up stuff from the ground, but too heavy to hold up and reach something. Most sturdy one I've used-its my sixth. Super effective! I use it to reach the cords of my blinds every day. I'd love one half the size!
