Good product does what they says it will do
This is a great product and it was a good choice. I completely reseeded the back half of my backyard and I needed a way to keep the birds out of it if for no other reason. you have to take your time and you have to pay attention to where the red marks are. Find out where the starting point is and there will be a red marker to tell you where it is and also a red marker at the end of the roll about 3 feet from the end will tell you you're about to get to the end of the roll. In some of the rolls there are some spots where the straw is a bit thinner than it is in other places but overall this product did what I needed it to do. I wouldn’t put much stock in some of the complaints about this product including one they said they tried to pull the cover up while the grass was connected to it. That just isn’t an option. once grass starts growing it will start running rhizomes above the ground. anyone whose spent any time working with grass will know this. If you’re a normal do-it-yourself then you know you need to take care and follow the directions accordingly. Be sure to buy a box of 500 steel staples because you’re gonna need a lot of them to finish tamping down all of the edges. I watered my ground, laid out my seed on top of the ground and then laid the covering over them, cutting the cover to size. Afterwards I came back and use Staples to tamp down all the edges. Then I watered again. Seeds do not have to be covered up by dirt. this covering will do that job for you. It also will keep the seeds moist while it tries to germinate. I water 2 to 3 times a day not to keep the covering moist but to keep the ground underneath of it moist because the wind will pull the moisture out of the dirt and the covering will stop that and keep the ground moist enough for the seeds to germinate. This cover provides more than one service once you get it down. Those who say that it does not stay down in windy weather obviously did not put down enough steel stakes to keep it tamped down on all the edges. This product is extremely useful and I recommend it to anyone who wants to use it for soil erosion or to seed your lawn.

Easy to use and strong
I recently needed to redo the yard on the side of my house. With the constant wind in this area, I needed something better then straw. These rolled out mats are perfect for what I need. The mat is thick enough to protect the seed underneath and will help hold in moisture. The entire mat is biodegradable. True there is a very thin, black plastic grid structure that the main part of the mat is secured to. By the end of the summer, everything will be broken down by the sun or the soil. These mats are expensive but worth the price. A few tips in using them. Once out of the box, there is a lite red strip, about 3" wide that shows where the beginning of the mat is. Once on the ground, roll the mat out slowly and slightly stretch it to cover the seed and ground. The mat will roll out even and straight, just go slow. When the mat gets to about 4" in diameter, you will need to separate it since it's rolled onto itself and is double thickness for the last 40 feet or so. I over lap the mats about 1-2" on the sides so each one can grab the other. If you have higher winds like I do, place a small weight, a board or a stone or two, on the very end for about a week. Existing grass will grow through the mat and secure it very well. When you're done rolling them out, soak them well with plenty of water. This will weigh the mats down and help hold them in place for seed germination.

Great!
Arrived wrapped tightly in plastic which I appreciated. Gets the job done. Is durable and of good quality. Only con is that it’s expensive.

It holds up to active breed dogs!
Its been a month since the purchase. We brought in a bunch of dirt to (mostly) level our yard because it backs up to a stream. Runoff has taken several feet of the yard over the years. This erosion control blanket was super easy to install. (except like many other reviewers the last 5 feet or so are terrible to try to roll out -our solution was to discard this portion. thank you all prior reviewers for this heads up!) We seeded new lawn underneath prior to rolling out and have kept it moist and little green blades of grass are poking up through it. Our 2 dogs (GS and Blk Lab) took a couple of hours getting used to it. They aren't tracking in the dirt. They run and play on it and the plastic mesh is still holding the raffia in place. The new grasses seem to be well protected. When we water it's not all running downhill into the stream, so it is doing its job keeping the soil in place.

Great product - easy to use
I used this to prevent erosion after I laid down new topsoil and grass seed. It's a bit heavy to cart around, but that's why we have wheel barrows. It rolls out easily, is heavy enough to stay in place (I did tack it down with landscape spikes) and is easy to cut with kitchen shears. Great product that's easy to use.

Pricey but works
Used this to help grass seed grow on a hill. Keeps erosion down and the soil moist from midday heat but holy cow is it pricey for what you get. Options are low when it comes to this type stuff.

Sturdy, dog-friendly and so far, effective!
I'm posting two "before" photos, which show where I put this erosion mat in my sloping, soggy back yard. I put the seed down before we got any consistently warm weather, but it's still growing. And my hostas popped right up through! This was super simple to put down using the biodegradable stakes that Amazon recommends and a rubber mallet. I spaced the pins about 18" apart on the seams, and it hasn't moved. We have two Labs (45 pounds and 90 pounds), and they actually love it. They sit on it like it's a rug! Their paws and nails never get caught in the mesh, which was one of my biggest fears. These mats have not only allowed grass to sprout but also have solved my number one objective, which was to prevent those paws from dragging so much mud into the house. Totally worth the money!!
