It is portable. It pluds into your electrical outlet and your vac and saw (drill, sander, etc) plug into it. You can unplug you eqip and move it to another location. Great product, only draw back for mme is I need another one.

if my chop box and vac are both 15amps(30amp total) how does this work without popping a breaker

The rating on the tools is the maximum current draw, which for motors occurs at startup. It can be 3 to 8 times the normal operating current. My table saw is rated at 16 amps. My shop vac is 6. But neither draws the 3 to 8 times current at the same time because this switch staggers startup. I just received my switch and it's working great so far.

it would power and turn off whatever was plugged into it - my only concern with a power strip would be to overload the plug itself!
