This guitar deserves 8 out of 5 stars, but I canโt select that. The tone is great, volume/sound carry is great, solid/sturdy build, tuning pegs are firm and hold very well, it looks nice, and I just love it. This is 100% a nylon string classical guitar, very much meant for playing classical music and not rock and roll, etc. The fret board is wide and spacious, made for arpeggio classical pieces, less good for strumming. You certainly can strum it and play whatever you want on it but if youโre trying to learn AC/DC and Led Zeppelin songs on this, you may want to look for more of a standard steel string guitar. If you like flamenco/classical/mariachi, etc then this is as solid a pick as you can make at this price point. Excellent guitar that I will love until I die! Genuinely the best couple hundred bucks I may have ever spent! Fully recommended for the beginner-to-mid-level guitarist! *One note, this is not a great guitar for very young players or those with extra small hands and/or short fingers. This is also true of pretty much any classical guitar, but consider that if choosing this for a Christmas gift for a kid, etc. Would buy this again 100 times over.

THIS ONE! GET THIS ONE!
Amazing quality for a crazy low price. If youโre interested in learning, this is the choice youโre looking for. Itโs held tuning amazingly, it feels nice, itโs definitely well built, and it just looks good! Great choice for beginners or shredders who want to learn classical! Great size, doesnโt feel awkward, and it sounds incredible. Only had to tune up after opening it, the strings it came with were good but I had ordered some extras knowing theyโll be needed.

Amazing value.
You're not going to find a nicer guitar at this price point, full stop. You may want to replace the strings (the included wound ones are very susceptible to wear) but that's a cheap and easy fix. There's even a nice little guide included that covers string replacements if you've never restrung a nylon instrument before. For people like me who are balling on a budget, Yamaha knocked it out of the park with this one. Excellent sound, no buzz (that other guy must have gotten a defective one), great action, and a lightweight but sturdy construction. This is the first budget instrument I've tried that doesn't feel like a compromise. You may have some issues with quality control (always a risk buying instruments online), but Amazon has a good return policy so worst comes to worst you can get a replacement. Some things to note: - This is a full size guitar, it'll probably be too big for younger kids. If you've got really young kids, try the Yamaha GL1. I don't own one, but I've played one and was similarly impressed. - There's only one fret marker on this thing, at the 7th fret. You can get a pack of these for under ten bucks on here, so probably do that if you're newer to guitar. - Don't put steel strings on this. They do this at guitar stores all the time with used classical guitars, and it damages the neck over time. They're designed for nylon and it sounds great with nylon anyway. - Skip the pick. It's bad on the strings and you're missing out on one of the best parts of classical guitar if you're not fingerpicking. That's about it. If you're on the fence, go for it. You'll be impressed.

a very nicely crafted guitar for the price
I'm a relatively inexperienced guitar player, although I have owned guitars before - including a really nice Goya "jumbo style" steel-string acoustic folk guitar. This is my first classical guitar, but I have both seen (and heard) many of them played on the Internet. I'm still in the process of evaluating this nice classical guitar. But I did find out a couple of things that disturbed me... The action on this guitar was much too high for me, and I managed to get the saddle out and to sand it down - just enough to lower the action significantly. (It's still a bit on the high side, but I feel that the guitar is much more comfortably playable now.) Also, it appears that this guitar - (which I purchased solo and without the "guitar package") is actually a Yamaha model C-40 and not a C-40II. (Part of the way that I could tell this was by the bracing that is used on the top of the guitar.) It is just the conventional bracing, and not (as best as I could tell) the improved bracing that the C-40II advertises. The sound of it is quite nice though (IMO) - even with the "stock" strings that are used on it. (I bought new strings for it, but I'm not really in a hurry to install them.) It seems that the quality and the workmanship on this guitar is top notch - which is surprising to find in a guitar at this relatively low price point. This guitar has a very nice finish, and there were no defects that I could find (and I checked it out as carefully as I could). It plays nicely too - especially since I lowered the action of the guitar strings. I looked at a lot of guitars, but the Yamaha name (and all of the good customer reviews) was enough to sell me on this guitar. I would have liked to have had a truss rod on the guitar, but alas, this guitar just didn't come with one. Many classical guitars don't have truss rods (especially at this price point, but I have read that this is even the case with some of the more expensive classical guitars). The "bottom line" -- I would recommend this guitar to a friend.

Highly recommend for someone wanting to learn guitar. Worth the extra money.
I'm a beginner guitar player who has tried several different guitars. This is the one to get if you're trying to learn. The nylon strings make it easier on your fingers as you learn. And this Yamaha is a lot better quality that some of the cheaper options. Well worth the extra. Tunes up nice. Stays in tune mostly - which is good. I'm sure it's normal for it to get slightly out of tune as the strings stretch a little - especially with new strings. Comfortable to use. Action is good. Some of the other guitars I've tried had a large gap between the strings and the fret - making it more difficult to play. But this one has a smaller gap - which I like.

Beautiful sound, beautiful build
Having had a classical guitar education since my early adolescent years, I have a very fond appreciation for nylon string guitars. This option, at this price, is terrific value for experts and beginners alike. The build is so smooth and has a very nice finish, it feels sturdy without feeling heavy, and light enough to be carried around by teenagers and adults alike. It's also not prohibitively small nor large, allowing most hand sizes, like the small ones I have, to be able to hit all notes (even the dreaded F#) without difficulty. I also can't overstate how nice it sounds. It has a beautiful, airy feel to it that only the best nylon classical guitars can have, and the strings that come with the guitar are perfect to start playing it as soon as the guitar arrives and is tuned. I've been playing classical guitar for decades, and this was a great choice to jump back in after a hiatus of a couple of years. Whether you are looking to help a growing kid learn a new art from scratch, looking to start playing classical guitar yourself, or are an advanced maestro needing a spare nylon guitar somewhere, this choice is incredible value for the money. I love it!

Wow. Just wow!!!
What an amazing sounding guitar!! Period. Never mind the fact that it's about $150. If you have been considering a nylon string acoustic, I just don't see how you could be disappointed unless you're used to multi-thousand dollar instruments. I got it first and foremost to chuck in the back of the car when going camping. I figured for such a reasonable price, if it got banged up a little that's "character". Well. After the first trip, I bought a case for it. After several more trips, I bought something dirt cheap from a pawn shop and this baby moved into my studio. I have had numerous musicians pick it up out of curiosity and shortly thereafter insist on using it on whatever they were recording!! Songs have been re-arranged just to make a place for it!! Oh, and it records beautifully. Get a large capsule condenser around the sound hole and a small cap condenser around the 12th fret. If you have a very quiet and acoustically dead room, place another large cap condenser some distance from the musician (you'll have to experiment, but I've gotten excellent results at about five feet and with the mic about four feet from the ground). The range of tonality available by mixing the different mics is stunning. All in all, an amazing value for a truly great sounding instrument. I'm SO glad I made this impulse buy!! Edit: I've had this guitar for about six years now and it remains one of my favorites. I loaned it to a guitar player friend who owns several really expensive guitars (like $4000 - $6000....seriously high dollar) and within a week he ordered one of his own. He loves it and has used it on songs that got airplay!! How cool is that? A guitar he paid less than $200 was used over super expensive guitars!!! Long story short, this is an amazingly good sounding guitar and Yamaha knocked it out of the park! And I'm STILL glad I made this impulse purchase!!
